Paul Ryan sells out conservatives with healthcare surrender
the Hill ^ | March 29, 2017 | BY MARK MECKLER

Posted on 03/29/2017 1:18:42 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

When Mitt Romney selected Congressman Paul Ryan as his running mate, people cheered. He was young, attractive, idealistic, and — doggone it! — he did P90x. Images of him lifting weights bounced across the internet. Surely this is what the GOP needed, they said. New blood. Youth. Strength.

The fact that his losing bid against Barack Obama and Joe Biden was the high mark of his career says a great deal about his legacy. His lack of true leadership has grown more and more evident. During the last week, Speaker Ryan's stature managed to shrink in regard to Congress, and certainly in the eyes of conservatives all across America. How far can he shrink before being deposed from the Speakership?

Only time will tell, but he was doomed from the start. Following in the footsteps of John Boehner, he’s a big government Republican. He and many others in Congress could have stopped ObamaCare before it started, by using the inherent power of the purse held by the House of Representatives. He was never willing to do that, nor were any other members of the so-called "leadership." He’d proven his insider, status quo stripes long before the fight over this latest fake repeal bill.

Too bad for Ryan, this is the era of the outsider; he’s the quintessential "insider." He's been on Capitol Hill almost continually since he graduated from college. He's been in the House since 1998. Much like Rep. Eric Cantor before him, Ryan seems to have lost touch with a base that has grown restless with the status quo.

“We the people” are in a revolutionary mood and he’s definitely not revolutionary leadership. What Ryan did with healthcare last week was the most flaccid embarrassment to the Republican Party in recent memory. Instead of the repeal ...promised...

Paul Ryan & his fellow RINOs in the leadership are stuck in MANAGE THE DECLINE mode while the base has followed Trump into MAGA mode.

They need to join the MAGA train or get the hell out of the way.

He has proven he is not the people's champion in the house that we need.

Thanks for posting.

When I trashed the GOPe, Ryan and Priebus were part of that group. IMO < they still are.

The same guy that couldn’t find the courage to defund anything Obama did, now thinks there may be reason to delay funding of the wall. (I haven’t seen him say it yet, but the idea is floating around in the House, evidently) He’s supposedly the leader of the House of Representatives, isn’t he?

The Ryancare bill, was a traditional GOPe effort. I am so glad it failed.

We have a chance to get a good reasoned Health Care bill.

Ryan, I think I hear your mama calling you back home.

Get outa Dodge.

Ryan has always been a Cheap Labor Express Republican beholden to the people who have been selling out America.
He was the perfect running mate for the phoniest Republican nominee in my lifetime.
Romney is the quintessential Democrat in an R jersey, he invented Obamacare when he was in MA as Romneycare.

We removed his ideological twin, Eric Cantor, as our representative in June of 2014 and elected Dave Brat who has made us proud of voting without nose-holding once again.

CANTORIZE YOUR WEASELS, AMERICA!

Do it before they give our country away.

Unfortunately the MAGA train left the station and Ryan would have to sprint several stops ahead to be able to hop aboard. Methinks it’s too late, not only for him but for all the RINO he’s been running alongside the train with.

I know Paul Ryan personally and like him as a person. He is very warm, genuine, and not filled with himself. I think the Ryancare episode simply illuminated what had heretofore been a mystery to most. That is, where, exactly, does Paul Ryan fall on the political continuum.

I think that matter has now largely been answered.

I think Paul Ryan is socially conservative, but he is a true believer in government — government done right — in a manner similar to Democrats who genuinely believe in Socialism, if only it were done “correctly”.

I firmly believe that while many may be wringing their hands at this loss, or like Democrats, are gleeful. I think this is a good thing. I believe that as a result of this failure very good things will sprout forth. Republicans will gain their sea legs, and a new, better working relationship with Trump will spring forth resulting in some really great things getting done.

Yeah, I honestly believe that. I think we’re going to look back at this like the first ball game of the season we lost and then went on a hot streak.

Both Ryan and Trump have another opportunity to support conservatism and support a true repeal of ObamaCare. I am hoping they work this out in private rather than in public this time.

I just finished reading Game of Thorns. It changed my mind about a Priebus. I had no idea how much he bucked the GOPe during and after the convention to help Trump.

Priebus moved heaven and earth to set up an effective presence in Florida, where the campaign had opened just one office.

He completely took over the ground game which didn’t exist and built one that worked against Hillary’s mega millions state of the art technological gee whiz system.

And he beat back all of the pressure from the establishment who wanted to dump Trump and run with Pence.

Prior to reading the book, I had no use for Priebus. I have to say, it changed my perceptions bigly.

Paul Ryno has some serious mental issues and I wonder if ANYONE in DC actually trusts that SOB.

I haven’t read it, or know much about it. For that reason I’ll ask you.

Who was it written by? Do you think there’s any chance it was written to white-wash Priebus? Was he in need of a new public image, a new persona, and was this the fix?

I’m not trying to give you a hard time. For all I know you are exactly right. I’m just raising the issue for you to think about the book, and ask yourself this question.

If you still think it’s a great book and Priebus is much better than I think, I’m not opposed to the opinion. It’s very hard for us to know exactly what is going on back there.

All I know is that the GOPe has not been our friend for a long long time. Priebus, McConnell, Paul Ryan, and others have been the figurehead of the GOPe. I railed against what they were up to many times over the years.

It’s hard for me to accept that these guys who seemed to betray our expectations, were really good guys after all.

Who was it then that was defeating us from our own side of the isle, if not for these folks.

Just food for thought.
