In the struggle to overhaul Obamacare, House Republicans appear to have made a costly overcorrection. Due to a technical change in the current draft of the bill, millions of veterans may be ineligible to receive tax credits.
Late Monday night, leadership staff released a 22-page technical amendment to the bill in order to make it compliant with Senate reconciliation rules. In their haste, they introduced language that could keep as many as 7 million veterans from participating in the GOP healthcare plan.

btw, I am pretty sure Washington Examiner is the one responsible for the SS agent Won’t Take A Bullet story resulting in her being eventually relieved from her position.
“Translated from legislative parlance, veterans couldn’t double dip. Under the original leadership plan, they had access to both the credits and VA benefits. But they could choose only one.”
Well, we Vets SHOULDN’T double-dip. Sign up for one or the other. *SHRUG*
I use the VA for my health care. They treat me like gold.
I think the point is that it forces you into the VA care.
Are repubs all lazy idiots? They had 8 years to be ready for this moment. They apparently continue their liar ways.
Yes i heard this today, everyone in DC had better reject this thing. EVERYONE. This is as bad as obamacare.
Yes, they are lazy idiots.
Some staffer probably wrote this.
I agree. One or the other, and I am a veteran also leaving in 1976. Take the credit or take the free care - whatever it is.
More than that. If the healthcare problem is to be fixed, there are going to be people who will be hurt by it, even if we don’t want them hurt, and that includes vets.
Either get it fixed or get stuck in the mud because we cannot bear who will be hurt by it.
It’s a great benefit to have. I don’t see a huge problem with this, though aside from the recent scandal with one of our northern facilities, which we are HOPING rids us of our CongressLesbian Tammy Baldwin (D, WI) I have access to excellent health care through the VA. They even let me go to the nearest hospital for the convenience factor, since I’m over an hour away from the Madison VA Hospital.
I joined last year so I would have health care post-retirement. They gave me a full work-up, all the base-line tests and exams I needed. We have an awesome Women’s Clinic and I got a pap and pelvic and mammogram.
I am a volunteer in a case study for colon cancer, which will go on for the next dozen years or so. Meh. So I’m a guinea pig - if it helps my fellow Vets, I’m good with it. :)
Out of pocket expense for all of the above? $24.00.
Thanks, Taxpayers! However, I EARNED this benefit, and since I’ve been a Taxpayer since I was 15 years old, I contributed, too.
Old Folks use Medicare. Poor Folks use Medicaid. Veteran’s use VA Health care. I don’t see a problem. We have to share the load and use the facilities that apply to our specific cases if the end result IS healthcare for all.
Many thanks.. I am still in tears and I am not sure if it is anger or pain. These are my brothers and sisters in arms. My two active duty children. All those Walter reed heroes who provide care to the county’s finest.
The Republican Party has turned the simple repeal of Obamacare into a gigantic cluster-blank. Can’t these idiots do anything right?
I guarantee you this isn’t how Mr. Trump ran his business empire.
If VA care is so great, force every elected official, including the congressional do nothings and their families to get care there. I won’t go to the VA because I cannot get timely care and English speaking specialists. I don’t receive a subsidy, but life changes. Do you think Medicare, Medicaid recipients get the same standard.. Nope, they go to top docs.
This is BULL!
Our pastor was sent first to Stephens Memorial Monday and then to Central Maine Medical yesterday for test and treatment that just a year ago would have had him going to Togus on both counts, both were high risk emergency’s.
President Trump is not going to allow Vets to get hurt.
At least this legislative process isn’t turning out to be a case of “we have to pass it to find out what’s in it”
Just curious. Did you read the story? Ryancare IS FORCING you to use VA.
Hopefully this gets fixed before it passes but I hope it doesnt pass at all.
VA Care sucks rocks.
To paraphrase the old expression, “pass in haste, repent in leisure.”
