Utah could soon have the strictest DUI threshold in the nation after state lawmakers on Wednesday night voted to lower the limit for a driver's blood-alcohol content to 0.05 percent, down from 0.08 percent. The measure heads to Utah's governor, who has said he supports the legislation.

Drunks never think they are impaired.
By your logic, lowering it to .05 will make many more drive safer!
“Looks like theyre now targeting responsible drinkers instead of drunks.”
If your drinking and driving your not a responsible drinker.
Nice rant, for a liberal, I guess.
I like beer or wine with my meal if it's okay with you. First, I doubt your "drunk driver," if you are thinking of a specific, had a blood-alcohol level below 0.15. Second, because someone dies in Utah, it isn't a good enough reason to restrict the activities of 50 million (or whatever) persons who enjoy alcoholic beverages responsibly. I know of exactly one person (I'm 70 now.) who got into accidents because he had to much to drink. He was an alcoholic.
Limits on blood-alcohol levels for drivers are stupid. What needs to tested is a person's reaction time. But then we would be ruling geezers off the road along with people who haven't slept in 20 hours. You wouldn't want to do that would you?

This is Prohibition.
.02 where i work
On January 19, 2017 my oldest daughter was thrown out of the car after rolling and killed instantly...my grandson who was DUI and driving on revocation was driving...
Now stop and think for a minute...just how would you feel...having to bury your daughter and your grandson is in jail, and has been since that day...he was not allowed out to attend the service, (thanks to me) and why he was driving, no one knows, she was licensed and had been for a long time, perfect driving record...
So now we are going through the court case, am I angry, bitter, well yes and no...angry that he was driving, angry that neither his parents had a problem with him drinking, bitter...guess that comes later as I'm still dealing with a lot of other emotions...fog oh yes, lots of it...
Yes I support DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE but you can only lead a horse to water, you can't make them drink...
Grandson's charges are: Vehicular homicide, DUI, and driving under restraint...
And in this case, it wasn't the ‘other persons fault’ it was the parent's fault and now I live with that...
If you chose to drug yourself while eating go ahead, just don’t drive afterwards.
You know that they can get you at .001 if they deem you impaired.
I wonder what happens when you drive across line? Do they set up a road block?
Do they have any research that this is going to reduce traffic accidents? or are they just looking to punish sinners?
You know in some countries they chop off you head for drinking?
Great statement. Did you originate that?
FWIW, you should never be allowed to get near a keyboard!
Because the grandson was an igmo, doesn't mean everyone else would be an igmo.
Just like a nanny state, punish 99% for the mistakes of the 1%. Very same logic..ban firearms because some idiot shoots up an establishment. Ban’em all!!!
Good grief.
So I lived in Utah. There are some interesting folks there. Mormon mothers who are so stressed out being the “perfect mother” on anti-depressants. If I recall correctly there was one woman who was driving the wrong way down I-15, she was charged with DUI.
The UHP will surely set up on I-80 during the weekends for all those coming back from Wendover, NV. This includes the “Jack Mormons” coming back on Saturday after tying one on so they can make it to church on time Sunday morning.
This is a great revenue generation tool for the state and local governments. IT’s not going to stop an irresponsible person. In fact I think there are many people who probably are driving impaired who drive far better than people on the phone, reading a book, newspaper, putting on makeup, yelling at their kids in the back seat, taking a selfie etc. etc. etc. Lets just ban driving....In Utah.... They like bicycles anyhow.
It’s all about the money...
The States and legal profession are making a fortune off the legal fees, fines & surcharges.
Once stayed at a hotel in Salt Lake City and went to the “lounge” to get a drink. When I ordered, I thought I’d gone to hell! The looks I got when I ordered Scotch! Whew! Couldn’t get out of town soon enough!
Looks like I hit a nerve.
“Drunks never think they are impaired.”
And they’ll defend their drug of choice to the bitter end.
Thank goodness you’re not in charge of our freedoms.
Just because you want something don’t make it right.
A beer an hour is a joke.
You probably like red light and speed cameras too.
The fare-the-well do-gooder’s and teetotaler’s will light up this thread!
