Physicist Stephen Hawking, who some have suggested is a conspiracy in and of himself, is now claiming we need some form of world government to protect us from the escalation of technology and artificial intelligence.
Since civilisation began, aggression has been useful inasmuch as it has definite survival advantages, he told The Times. It is hard-wired into our genes by Darwinian evolution. Now, however, technology has advanced at such a pace that this aggression may destroy us all by nuclear or biological war. We need to control this inherited instinct by our logic and reason.
The real risk with AI isnt malice but competence, Professor Hawking said. A super intelligent AI will be extremely good at accomplishing its goals, and if those goals arent aligned with ours, were in trouble. Youre probably not an evil ant-hater who steps on ants out of malice, but if youre in charge of a hydroelectric green energy project and theres an anthill in the region to be flooded, too bad for the ants. Lets not place humanity in the position of those ants.

Is this the same guy?
we need a world government like we need hemmoroids
Guy’s a huge socialist/atheist. Not surprising.
Reminds me of War Games, the movie.
The general consensus of those who wish to rule the world government is that the world population needs to be reduced by about 6 billion people ASAP.
Once they enough power, they intend to follow through and implement this objective
I’d hardly expect him to be a reliable authority on political issues. Can’t help but think if he didn’t say these things, he’d be ignored. And he may realize that.
Then I opt for being destroyed by technology.
Or Glowbull Warming.
Or Zika.
Or Russia.
We all gotta die of something. Ain’t worried about it.

Socialist, atheist, and anti Semite, how will that work on a job application?
Hawking is one of the greatest physicists and cosmologists who have ever lived. That does not mean he knows anything about politics or what sort of government works best for people. Anything he has to say about black holes or quantum gravity has to be accorded the utmost respect and consideration. Anything he has to say about the need for a world government is about as important as my mailman’s opinions on the need for a world government.
He may have a command of advanced theoretical physics, but his summary knowledge of human histories is seriously lacking if he thinks government solves anything?
Look, I’m just as fretful about the March of the Robots as any other American, but somehow, I think Stephen is overreacting just a bit. If the end scenario is truly so dire, then promote congress to build a safety net of preventive laws. I agree we should be worried, very worried about robotic systems soaking up too many jobs from humans.
I don’t spend much time thinking the robotic systems will rise up and destroy us. This is Stephen current nightmare.
That horror is far less an immediate threat than the culture shock of millions of people who are suddenly unemployable.
Can you imagine what a scary unbelievable thing that would be. Talk about bureaucracy OMG. He’s absolutely insane!
Put him in charge of the EU.
Ironically, if not for technology, Hawking would have been taking a dirt nap a long time ago.
However, if all he meant by 'us' is him and his fellow socialist atheists, well then, I hope he's correct.
The zeroes and ones are coming to get us because the governments are structuring them to do so for government’s gain.
Government is the greediest, most corrupt and murderous force on Earth. It’s not even debatable.
Government is a necessary evil, therefore it’s powers should be strictly limited, and it should be prohibited from violating the natural rights of the individual.
The only people who believe in all-powerful government are those who look upon government as their own personal Ponzi scheme or their own personal fiefdom.
Can you imagine a one world government controlled by North Korea or China or ????? Who would decide? Hawkins has lost it.
