ESPN has become a drag on the earnings of parent company Disney as cord-cutters unsubscribe in droves.
A floundering ESPN, with rising costs and declining viewership, continued to sink Disneys financial results during its fiscal first quarter, MarketWatch noted.
With its movie franchises and theme parks, Disney is and should be doing fine, but the 1Q revenue was down 3 percent and profit plummeted 14 percent because of its sports media investment.
~Then farther down~
In an essay posted at Outkick the Coverage, Travis argues that ESPN is tanking in the ratings generally because of an emphasis on political correctness and progressive political activism, thereby alienating 75 percent of the viewership who just want to watch sports, sports highlights, or discussions directly sports related.

I quit cable. Only have local.
Same here, cut the cord over a year ago.
Can’t get it in Thailand. College football fan. I’d put up with it’s politics for that.
Subscribers? Bread and circuses.
Sportscenter & Baseball Tonight - 1994.
“The ball is juiced.”
Dan Patrick said it every two minutes.
And it was funny every time.
Haven’t watched it since.
The Romans used to use ESPN in their vomitoriums.
God knows it works.
If you’d come up to me in the mid-1990s and said that ESPN would eventually dissolve because they couldn’t focus upon sports...without hyping some political gimmick....I would have laughed. Today? Unless something changes...I give them no more than five years before they get sold off to some Mexican TV group and mostly doing professional wrestling and European ice hockey games.
It was a perfect combination of sports and round-the-clock coverage. All you had to do....was avoid discussing politics in the mix of things.
“Cant get it in Thailand.”
Damn, sorry man. Try The Carousel Bar.
Oh, wait, you mean ESPN! :)
Losing 10K per day? Hahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaa.
The leftist/elitist response at the high levels of Disney will be dismay, and to double-down on their hate of average, especially white, Americans.
Got rid of TV years ago because it was propaganda 24/7 on every channel including gardening channels.
I work on the railroad.
ESPN - Entertainment & Sports Progressive Network
Yep, I got a good antenna with amp & rotor, the rest is internet and RedBox.
The proggies fear a ‘cafetria plan’ cable/sat TV offering - they know that their crap would be dead in a heartbeat.
I deleted the ESPN app. I already cut the cable cord.
Heck, they have a woman announcing baseball games.
I've been in business for 30 years and I don't think there is a single client of mine that knows my political leanings. I keep that part of my life totally separate from my business.
I think the biggest angle to this story is that most of ESPN’s viewers are people who have ESPN as part of a cable package — and that more and more people are either opting out of those packages that include ESPN, or they are ditching cable entirely.
