The Oroville Dam is the highest in the nation.
Fish farts.
The situation is even more dire. Reliable reports of one week, other reports of two weeks, which jibs with subtle hints dropped at news conference yesterday. Trucks getting the boulders are driving by us.
No food deliveries. There are thousands of us still here that are above the dam. There is one market where it was a controlled madhouse this morning. Folks very nice, but trying to get supplies. Animal feed is a problem.
Anyone have the live webcam up? Some are saying they are seeing bubbles near the ES?

Not bubbles.

I checked and it’s either something reflecting off the glass or bubbles...
Give the situation, I think it’s the latter.
David,
Check vid @ 35 seconds to 48 seconds; what’s the two white dots?
Reflection of something, or bubbles?

Oops - I mean post 818.
Looks like it could be bubbles, after all, per post 825 by WildHighlander57.
I can’t tell - it’s tiny on my phone.
What is the big point of concern if those actually are bubbles, that the erosion has undermined the concrete lip of the spillway? It would be an odd leak if air is getting through past the pressure of the water rushing out. I’d tend to think bubbles were related to the power plant being offline, the intake(s) are within the dam itself.
Maggief, is that pic at the beginning of when they appear?
Being that they are there for about ten seconds, it looks like a reflection as the aircraft/chopper is turning.
Water bubbles would run longer I would think.
With the dam’s dedication done by (then) Gov Ronald Reagan.
Unsure.
See also ripples at the 9 minute mark. Could be from the helicopter. ??
Thanks, maggie, for the huge photo.
I also watched the video again.
There’s no other glinting on the water from sunlight.
Could these be reflections from helicopter?

KCRA 3 is live now.
LiveCopter 3 surveys the Oroville spillways on Tuesday afternoon.
That image is from a news report posted yesterday, 2/13. If it were a serious issue, I think it would have grown into something more significant by now.
Keeping in mind that I’m not an expert on such things.
There’s been water against a significant portion of the inside face of that earthen dam for the better part of fifty years. A cross section illustration of the dam’s construction that I saw indicated a fairly substantial concrete area running vertically through the middle of the dam also. I don’t think ground saturation is going to be the issue with this dam, bubbles or not. Erosion of spillways has been the issue and if it’s not contained, the top of the dam built onto that hillside will fail. That’s the problem. There’s also some conjecture that such a failure could possibly cascade into failure of the earthen dam itself, but I think that’s just catastrophizing due to overly involved online speculation.
Those news helicopters are restricted to a much higher altitude.
I still don’t quite understand the dropping of bags in the holes on the far NW side of the parking area and why they went after that area first...
if the lake makes it up that far again the water will just move around those bags and erode another section
at this time I don’t believe the emergency spillway will be used for a while...
the lake will drop to about 865 before inflows will catch up to outflows...and based on the latest model data i don’t believe inflows will be over 110K cfs(current outflows)) for a long period of time
the weather after that looks mostly snow for much of the basin
I am more worried about the main spillway at these flows....its only a matter of time before something interesting happens to it
The aircraft is pretty high up to be able to cause that.
Plus there would be uniform “prop wash”, which there isn’t.
