The Nuclear Option. Harry Reid’s doing. (Thank you, Harry) No filibuster.

What is the nuclear option?
It takes a simple majority — 51 out of 100 senators — to confirm a Supreme Court justice. Republicans hold 52 seats in the Senate. So if every member voted along party lines, any of Trump’s nominees would successfully be voted onto the highest court in the land.
But Democrats could try to filibuster to prevent that vote from taking place at all. In theory, if they are united, Democrats could postpone a vote on any nominee for years — because as of right now, it takes a supermajority of 60 votes to end a filibuster, allowing the vote to proceed.
But if the Republicans wanted, a simple majority could vote to change Senate rules, eliminating the filibuster option entirely for Supreme Court nominations. That’s the nuclear option. It would make it significantly easier for the majority party to confirm any Supreme Court nominee going forward.

I am hearing that the three amigos are due for a trip to the principle’s office. Not sure how Trump gets McStain in line but it will be brutal and old Juan will be clenching his jaw for days. The other two clowns will then fall in line. Little Marco will try to fight back but he is in for rude surprise from his past.

“Gorsuch simply puts the court back to a 5 - 4”

Agree, they got pretty much everything they wanted with the court as it was. Yes they are bitter because they came within a hair of moving the court FAR left for a decade but Trump won so this is just status quo. Now if
one of the Rats leave look out total war.

Now I must admit. I was thinkin this was a Total setup by CNN to make Pelosi look good. Duh. Most here understand that.
A Woman just asked her which of her children would she have Sacrificed to be Murdered by an illegal that was here Illegally (Of course) and what Sanctuary City she supported whould he be released to.
Actually the Second question asked of her that made her look compliant with the Illegals.

They are all solid on judges, almost all Republicans in the Senate are. Graham despite being a lil’ jerk is a leader in supporting conservative judges. Rubio, despite having the ire of freepers to such a degree as to make one think he might be Arlen Specter actually has a very conservative voting record.

The only ones to worry about are the abortion loving Collins and Murkowski, both of whom voted for Alito.

LOL Watching tucker and it is amazing how liberals think they are so smart, and yet they get ripped apart, and they just resort to talking points.

My guess is that the Democrats ultimately don’t filibuster, based on straightforward political calculations: There are at least half a dozen Democratic Senators from red states who are up for re-election in 2018 and will be on the hot seat. Although Democrat constituents in their states will demand a filibuster, doing so without any good justification other than refusing to approve any conservative Supreme Court appointee from Trump will make them extremely likely to be defeated. And if even a few Democrats refuse to filibuster, then suddenly Gorsuch has “bipartisan support”, which makes it just that much harder for the remaining Democrats to justify a filibuster. The only way out of this trap is for Chuck Schumer to himself pull the plug on the filibuster, and absorb the heat for that decision. Then the red state Democrats can’t be blamed for going along with Chuck.

Ultimately Schumer has no other choice. Without a plausible excuse, other than ideology, for blocking Trump’s nominee, Republicans will resort to the nuclear option and blame it on the Democrats’ intransigence. So the Democrats would accomplish nothing except to badly damage their most vulnerable Senators in the process (by forcing those Senators to take a stand which will hurt them no matter which way they go), and make it easier to confirm Trump’s next Supreme Court nominee.

But first there will be an enormous amount of posturing by Schumer and other Democrats, to try to prove to their far-left base that they put up a good fight before accepting the inevitable.

Popcorn manufacturers are going to make a fortune.

Rubio appears to be on board:

http://postonpolitics.blog.palmbeachpost.com/2017/01/31/trumps-gorsuch-nomination-rubio-applauds-nelson-vows-full-examination/

Republican Sen. Marco Rubio praised Trump’s choice.

“Judge Gorsuch is a highly qualified, mainstream jurist, which is why he was unanimously confirmed to the circuit court by the Senate in 2006,” said a Rubio statement. “By all accounts he has the right temperament and experience for the job, and I’m pleased to see him nominated to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. Most importantly, he is committed to the principles of original intent and judicial restraint. This is critical, because too many in the federal judiciary today believe it is appropriate for judges to invent new policies and rights instead of interpreting and defending the Constitution as it is written.”
