Liberals used to hate secession, the notion that states could leave the Union as they did before the Civil War because they didnt agree with the policies of the federal government. But with Donald Trumps election, many California liberals suddenly have warm words for a budding ballot initiative that has just begun collecting signatures in order to place secession, or Calexit, on the ballot.

Both NYS and Ca should be divided.
LOL. My husband and I discussed this over the weekend. CA should be North and South CA. North is more conservative.
I live in VA and 80% of the counties went for Trump, but the populated areas gave the win to Hillary :(
no way in heck should we give California 2 more senators!
populated areas = Gimidats.
Its in every state
The left need to be careful what they ask for.
Immediately after California secedes about 80% of the rest of the state, by land mass, will secede from them. Taking all water, food and electric production.
With only 1/3 support I agree, maybe in 3. California, Sanfagcisco, and LA.
I would think that a sizable percentage of those living in areas wanting to succeed would actually want to become part of Mexico.
California could actually divided into eighths
Los Angeles and San Francisco being independent, with the remaining 3/4 being a nice red state.
Liberals are "Do As I Say, Not As I Do" folks.
So while California libs might want to take their state out of the Union, they would never allow California's rural counties to leave the state. To the libs, freedom is for the elite only.
I think is should split into five. Texas too.
When the borders were set, I don't know why they included the southern area--most of the population was in the north where the gold fields were. Did they think the southern area would never have very many people? The logical place to divide the area was at 36 degrees 30 minutes north, but the Northern Congressmen may have feared that would pave the way to the creation of a slave state in the area to the south of that line.
Texas has always had the right to divide itself into as many as five states. The problem is, all five would want to have the Alamo.
Then use military might to liberate the secessionists from their uber-fascist California masters.
Good point.
I'm guessing the California National Guard would side with the rural farmers, and not with the urban elite. In fact, I'm guessing the California National Guard is made up of mainly rural farmers and other working-class folks.
We don’t need to fix the state. California is a beautiful and rich place.
We need to fix the people.
Several states that want to break up why?
Within a few years, the Libs will have infiltrated the broken off sections and the new segmented state will be back in the same shape condition in a couple of decades Libs running things and creating havoc.
Libs spread into non-Lib states. Look at Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, etc.
Breaking up into another entity is not the solution. It is sort of like chopping off ones arm because a finger has a splinter.
Man up! Take your state back! Otherwise, breaking the state up is like compromise, and look at what compromise has done in DC, for example. In compromise, you lose and the Libs win.
Just what this nation needs a dozen future Venezuelas peppered along the coastal regions and inland.
You think they still wont be suckling off FED money? Most foreign nations get some kind of FED money now.
As separate nation-states they would get the money without DC regulating how they spend it.
No north and South. That means LA and San Fran still run things. Divide the coastal third off and the Eastern part of the divide becomes one of the largest conservative states.
I am so tired of the downstate liberals ruining my home.
They have turned it into a nightmare.
