As President Obama left the White House, the mainstream press was falling over itself proclaiming how popular he was.
"Obama leaving office on a very high note," was a typical headline.
Yet despite the media's fixation with polls, the press completely buried one of the more newsworthy poll findings a Gallup report that came out last Friday, which took a final look at the President Obama's popularity over his eight years in office.
That poll found that Obama's overall average approval rating was a dismal 47.9%.
Only three presidents scored worse than Obama since Gallup started doing these surveys in 1945: never-elected Gerald Ford (47.2%), one-termer Jimmy Carter (45.4%), and Harry Truman (45.4%).
Obama even did worse overall than Richard Nixon, whose average approval was 49%, and was less popular overall than George W. Bush, who got an average 49.4%.
That sounds newsworthy, doesn't it? But you'd never know this if you relied on the mainstream press for information. That's because not one of them reported on Gallup's finding.

The fake news purveyors keep citing polls showing how unpopular President Trump supposedly is and how Obama trumps him in the popularity department.
What a lie! But we knew that all along.
By the way, when are we going to start hearing from The Leader of the Opposition, the President of the Shadow Government, Barack Obama?
If they don’t report it, then it didn’t happen.........................
Dat’s waycist!...............
Wow did Gallup release this in Siberia? Not a word in any of the press, or even on Fox News, that constantly cited the 67% approval number for Obama. Worse than Nixon that’s got to leave a mark!
Makes John McCain and Mitt Romney look like particularly awful candidates, doesn’t it?
It says something when McQueeq and Mitt lost to the most awful candidate in history.
McCain wasn’t supposed to win, and he was a good little trooper for the first time in his Mavericky life. Romney believed his own press releases in addition to believing that he was prophesied to be President.
They can lie and twist, comparing Trump and Obloviater; but one poll tells the tale on Trump’s REAL popularity. Last weekend a poll showed that 66% (IIRC) felt positive and confident about the future of our Country. That ices it for me.
Obama’s approval and the MSM, a partnership in crime.
Dats waycist!...............
Who Axed you!!!

Yeah, it’s stupid. There are only two approval polls out there since Trump took office. Rasmussen (57% approve / 43% disapprove) and Gallup (45% - 45%).
And how can you approve or disapprove of the mans job after only three work days on the job???
I should change my tagline, but as long as the stench lingers so strong, I will keep it as it is.
Midterm beatdowns and dem defeat in 2016 are the only evidence I need to say Obama was not popular.
Fake news polls having him in the high 50’s were polls of “adults”. LOL.
Great article John. Thanks for sharing the Gallup poll numbers.
These claims of Zero having around 60% approval means that Hillary would’ve won handily by a 20% landslide.
They said Bill Clinton was that popular as well. The numbers they cited though were only on his handling of the economy, which was good at the time. Overall he was not that popular and Gore tried like hell to distance himself rather than embrace him.
The 47% or so they cite in this poll jibes with the election results. It WAS a referendum on Zero.
The downside to the GOP winning Congress back in 1994 is that they made possible the better economic environment that Bubba took credit for (which helped save him for 1996).
Frankly could care less if they report 0 as more popular than Trump.
Trump is now in charge and 0 is now no longer relevant
