President Donald Trumps reported plan to gut federal spending by $10.5 trillion over the next decade includes eliminating three of iconic agencies defended as cultural mainstays by many Democrats.
The next administration is working on plans to eliminate the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and privatize the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, The Hill reported Thursday.
Combined, the three departments cost around $741 million in 2016, and is a small part of a host of budget reforms needed to cut more than a trillion a year from the federal budget.
Eliminating funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which runs PBS and supports shows like Sesame Street, is not a new idea. Mitt Romney suggested cutting the CPB during the 2012 presidential campaign, and was quickly criticized. President Barack Obama even accused Romney of trying to kill Big Bird in a campaign ad.

*low whistle*
I had no idea they were getting that much money.
Perfect. It’s about time.
Bad Ass....
HUD. EPA. Dept Education.
And there are places in the DoD shore establishment that could stand elimination
Yep.
Don’t forget about defunding planned butcherhood.
National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, and Corporation for Public Broadcasting are rather trivial expenses compared with the federal budget, but they are also unnecessary expenses. With a $20T debt, we cannot justify borrowing to pay for these and leaving that added debt to our children.
Debt per taxpayer: $166,000
I hope the Department of Education, the Department of Energy (except their nuclear weapons), BATFE, and most of the EPA are next on the list. Let’s cut the big wasteful bloated departments along with those three little wasteful luxuries.
What? TPP gone! Regulations to be cut by 75%? Corporations who move jobs to foreign lands will pay border tax? Tax cuts looming?
Somebody pinch me! I must be dreaming? We have a politician in office who will actually follow through with his campaign promises? This is all new to me!!!
with the money sesame street makes from toys and products why are we still giving them government money?
YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!
The various “means tested benefits”(welfare) programs, like Section 8 housing, TANF, WIC, food stamps, etc are spread out among over a dozen different agencies. Bringing them all under one roof would allow for the elimination of LOTS of federal workers. Implementing comprehensive anti-fraud measures, like facial recognition and iris scans to detect people applying for benefits from multiple addresses (how do you think so many afford steak and lobster on EBT?) would do even more.

He's not a politician, that's why.
You will be surprised at the tremendous research done in physics, chemistry, chemistry, biology, and other sciences at the laboratories funded by dept of energy. I did work at one of those laboratories, many years ago, and that basic research filters into hundreds of uses in industrial applications.
