These studies aren't worth spit because everbody knows you don't tell anybody how many guns you have. Or what caliber they may be. Long or short, old-style or semi.
Nothing. Not even here.

Only 8.1 guns per owner? Hmmm....seems a little light.

I have probably 15 powder burners and about the same number of airguns. There are huge gaps in my gun needs.
Still, I can remember when Daddy only had a .22 Remington model 513, a Single barrel Essex shotgun and a WWII trophy Luger. He did buy a Browning Auto 5 around 1958 but had sold the Luger by then.

I don’t know of anybody that owns just one gun. Still, I give the study a little more credit than you do. But in the end I think it’s just an educated guess more than a “study”.

Agreed.
Anyone divulging what they own is asking for trouble.
I advise folks not to talk about their weapons at all. Don’t talk about ammo or any devices you may own.

Tell a doctor you have guns and it’s entered into a federal database - I suspect that MANY gun owners are quiet about their hardware when some snowflake calls them and asks.

They claim the number of gun owners is shrinking when my observation is the exact opposite. Lots of people I know have acquired guns who did not own them previously.
A friend of mine started me shooting 10 years ago, I had not been a gun owner.
Since then I have introduced at least 6 people to firearms ownership.

...8.1 guns per household... The question is not inventory, it's use.
For knives, I have a large chef's knife, a small chef's knife, a paring knife, a tomato knife, a sandwich knife, a carving knife, a bread knife, eight steak knives, a knife sharpener, even an electric knife (semi-automatic?). Each has its purpose, and I don't arm up with multiple knives.
How many people with 8.1 guns arm themselves with all of them and then go out seeking mayhem?
