If a mayor in the oath of office pledges to uphold the Constitution and all laws and then does not obey U.S. immigration laws, is he or she guilty of perjury for violating that oath of office or guilty of some other crime. If so, Jeff Sessions could have them all arrested and thrown in jail
Yes! Absolutely!
I just heard the mayor of Los Angeles say (in English) that cities don’t enforce federal law.
Since robbing a bank is against federal law does that mean that LAPD will look the other way?
Maybe it’s more like treason.
As should have FDR of all politicians in particular, the faithless scumbag.
The major of Los Angeles has a mid two digit IQ.
Shouldn’t expect too much.
The Chief of Police has him beat by about 5 points.
It’s a violation of an oath, but perjury is deliberately lying under oath in court or before some other sort of legal tribunal.
Shouldn't we start with something a little bigger - like Obama, the President of the U.S. who takes his oath of office to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution only to violate that oath continually by purposefully ignoring the Constitution and deliberately stepping outside of his constitutional limitations? What the penalty for that?
It’s just a typical Democrat crime.
My hope is that in a couple of years, Jeff Sessions says to Obama. “Boy, you in a heap of trouble”.
That involves interpreting the law. As you know, there are as many interpretations as there are lawyers and judges.
Great! Start with CA Lt Gov Gavin Newsom and charge him retroactively for contributing to the sanctuary city of San Francisco.
That would have been my comment too, but some of the folks have a good backup for that, and that’s a civil code that makes it a crime to sign an oath and not follow through.
(public officials)
It’s violating the law. Calling it “sanctuary city” doesn’t change anything.
As soon as he gets the thumb screws on Cankles, she will throw Barry under that bus in short order.
Believe it is treason! Yes, by law they MUST be charged, tried, and if found guilty by a Grand Jury, face years in jail.
Second, please remember States’ (and localities’) Rights. A mayor must execute the laws given by the City Council, to include Sanctuary City laws. So, here the city's and nation's laws conflict.
This is similar to the Ghey Marriage ruling thrust on states. The states should have a right to ignore it. In fact, governors should be bound by enforcing the only real laws that exist in the matter: their states’.
So, shouldn't mayors be bound to enforce Sanctuary Cities?
Just cut their funding, as Trump proposes.
With this Justice Department it’s nothing. With the next Justice Department, a lot of pressure can be brought to bear with law enforcement cooperation, grants, and Homeland Security. Sanctuary cities live off the Government Teat and those subsidies can come to a screaming halt. There are lots of other cities with more to offer.
It’s giving aid and comfort to the enemy. The Constitution has a word for that.
