Montgomery Alabama television station WSFA is reporting that President – elect Trump has offered the position of United States Attorney General to Senator Jeff Sessions. This would be an awesome pick. Senator Sessions previously has saved as a U.S. Attorney, as Attorney General for the StTe of Alabama, and as a Senator for Alabama for multiple terms.

Yes, the governor would appoint a senator for the rest of Session’s term. The Governor, Senate and House of Alabama are Republicans.

I believe the GOP governor of Alabama will appoint a replacement for Sessions seat.
It's Alabama. The governor will appoint a Republican as interim senator. A Republican will be elected in the special election. Nothing will change.

FWIW, I think they have a shoe-in replacement for the seat, or Trump wouldn’t have made this pick.

Yes Governor Bentley (R) would replace him. My congressman Mo Brooks (R) 5th Alabama district, has indicated he is interested.
If the legislature does not object, the Governor can forgo the special election.
It would save the state a lot of money not to have a special election, but to wait and have a race at the normal time in 2018.

As important if not more important than a pit bull is someone with an impeccable personal life. A Trump AG could potentially be prosecuting the Clintons and so he better be prepared for mud slinging. No doubt the Dems will bring up his alleged racial comments from 30 years ago, but that’s already public knowledge. But there is nothing hidden, I’m confident. Sessions is a fine Christian gentlemen who never attended any DC “pizza parties.”
