2016 has not been too kind to Elizabeth Holmes, the Steve-Jobs wannabe in charge of fraudulent Theranos. She has thus far been banned for 2 years from operating labs, removed from hosting fundraisers for Hillary and lost her entire net worth. And now, the Wall Street Journal has published the "tell-all" story of the whistle-blower, 26 year old Tyler Shultz, who brought the the whole Theranos farce crashing down. It's a sordid tale complete with all the expected twists and turns of a Jason Bourne thriller including intimidation, coercion and private detectives.
Tyler Shultz is the grandson of George Shultz, 95, who was President Richard Nixons Treasury and labor secretary and secretary of state for President Ronald Reagan, with whom he had a close relationship. The elder Shultz also happened to be a Theranos board member in 2013 when his grandson accepted a full time position there.
Fresh out of Stanford with a degree in biology, it didn't take long for Shultz to discover deficiencies in the accuracy of Theranos' testing equipment. After Shultz's complaints to Theranos executives, including Elizabeth Holmes, fell on deaf ears, he decided to blow the whistle to a state regulator instead. Using an alias, Tyler Shultz contacted New York states public-health lab and alleged Theranos had manipulated a process known as proficiency testing, relied on by federal and state regulators to monitor the accuracy of lab tests.

"After making the decision to quit, Theranos went all-in with their efforts to silence Shultz by releasing an army of lawyers and even hiring private investigators to have him followed."
OH man, I hope the feds have the guts to charge her crazy-a@@ with stalking and intimidation.
If not for the fact that she’s coming across/being revealed to be a complete and utter sociopath, she would in fact be very inspirational. Good quotes, but I am certain that I hope she ends up in federal court soon and charged with the crimes she is being exposed as being guilty of.

Oh yeah. Like the “overly attached girlfriend”.

Told you it was the biotech Pets.com.
There’s never only one.
good find
....if she doesn’t stab you to death.
I am further upset by the costs borne by his parents. If grandson is committed to blowing the whistle, then he should shoulder the legal fees. Hopefully his plan is to sue for damages and pay them back. I certainly hope that is the case.
The Wall Street Journal devoted a couple of pages to this situation yesterday, having originally broken the story last year.
Keep in mind that George Shultz is 95. The impression I got from the WSJ is that he’s just not all that sharp any more.
Sounds like you had access to more information than was available here. Thanks.
WSJ is giving it major coverage. There were other old political men on the board, too: Henry Kissinger, William Perry, Sam Nunn. (Just looked it up in the paper.) To me, this is a reminder that the “crony capitalism” is a problem regardless of party.
Ms. Holmes had a great idea, but it didn’t actually work technologically (or scientifically). However, because of the power brokers backing her, because of the lure of the idea, because of her sex, she managed to run with it for a long time.
For 95, he looks good.
Two from each party. The companies version of fair & balanced?
Covering all the bases.
It’s also a demonstration of the power of wishful thinking.
This young man is a hero and incredibly brave to stand up against powerful bullies for what is right. Lord only knows what destruction he prevented from happening.
I hope his grandfather mends his relationship with his grandson.
