The day after a Minnesota cop was charged in the July shooting death of a black man, an in-depth study purported to show race generally does not play a role in police shootings.

Among the findings of the investigation released Thursday by the Crime Prevention Research Center: White police officers are not significantly more likely to shoot black suspects; body cameras have had little effect on decreasing police killings; the more cops at the scene, the less likely it is a suspect will be shot.

This study will be discounted by “progressives” because reformed “progressive” John Lott is involved.

Normal, rational people knew that.
People who want to get the “oppressed” underclass to rise up against their “oppressors” deny that.

If People of any Race want to act like "Gangsters", why are they surprised when they are treated like Gangsters?
There was no trial for Bonnie and Clyde the day they were gunned down.

The percentage of black suspects shot did not go up after Ferguson. That proves cops aren’t racist? I don’t think they are (outside of some bad apples), but the logic seems questionable.

Exactly! The protesters are true believers in their cause. The facts don’t matter. Like feminism, the environmental movement, groups like AARP and PETA, the BLM movement is merely a cover for groups that want to make America communist.

This can’t be true. Everyone KNOWS it’s not true and if everyone KNOWS then it must be right?

purported to show

Why the choice of the word "purported"?

Definition: appear or claim to be or do something, especially falsely; profess.
"she is not the person she purports to be"
synonyms: claim to be, profess to be, pretend to be

Slanted!

I agree. Maybe the author does, too, considering the use of the word “purported”.

I’m predisposed to believe the conclusion of the study, but I’d like better data to support it.

Interesting anecdotal evidence: “News stories tend to not mention the race of the officer when the officer is black, because most of the black officers we found we found by looking at department photos, not news stories,” Lott said. “That was not true of white officers.”

Another interesting fact that doesn’t seem to be relevant to the article: The duo concluded black suspects were 65 to 140 percent more likely to be shot by unionized police officers.

Not mentioned in the article: In federal crime statistics, if a perp is hispanic, he is listed as white. If a victim is hispanic, he is listed as hispanic. The government admits to doing this. (What they don’t admit to is the desperate attempt to make white people look less victimized and more criminal than they are and at the same time make hispanics look better and more victimized than they are.)

When a Police Officer arrives at a crime scene and sees three black “yutes” fleeing, is it “unfairly targeting” blacks?
Give me a break..if it was two whites and one black and they shot the black, I might agree in that instance.

I think cops are more nervous today than ever.
I have 2 properties on this street. One on the corner and another 1/2 way up the block. Yesterday while working on the house up the block with my son who lives on the corner, my son received a call that a cop was on our property by my dobie who was/is always on an outside runner.
I drove down the block to ask him what’s up. I had to walk about 150 feet from my truck over to him (unarmed). He had his hand on his gun the entire walk and for about 10 seconds afterwards.
I was not disrespectful in any way but afterwards felt really pissed due to his having his hand on his gun for so long. I’m not a big guy and somewhat old so I can’t see that he could have perceived me as a threat since he was way bigger than me.
I’m actually still kind of pissed today.

These cities are so screwed up. I know of an incident where a cop in a residential area turned a corner and saw a black kid about 14 with his arm half reaching into a parked car through the partially opened passenger window. He stops, exits his vehicle and the kid starts running away. The cop tells him to stop and takes him by the arm. At that point 2 adults exit a home saying it’s their kid who they sent out to get their cigarettes, but the car was locked so he was reaching through the partially opened window. Who knew?

Long story short, the cop and department were subjected to investigations, discipline, a law$uit and on and on. The cop said he thought it possible the kid was breaking into the vehicle or attempting to steal something from the it. So he did his job and stopped the kid to find out what he was doing.

This kind of jackassery goes on all the time. It’s the norm. And it costs the taxpayers big.
