An audience member at the Metropolitan Opera threw a white powdery substance into the orchestra pit on Saturday during an intermission of the afternoon performance of Rossinis Guillaume Tell, officials said, prompting the company to cancel the rest of the show and that nights performance of LItaliana in Algeri while the police investigated.

What else would one expect from the people who have probably the worst website in the United States. They certainly have my email address and they know I bought a ticket. I suppose I am not unique. But the thought of an email blast to all of us when they decided to cancel was probably too difficult for their crack programmers to put into their system; or maybe they just never though of it. Even now they could just credit my credit card as they know I didn't sell the ticket. (It was being held for me at the box office.) And they could send me an email informing me that they did, but that would probably be too much to ask.
Sometimes I drive and park underneath, but tonight I took a bus in. I wonder what the poor schlubs who paid $40 to park might have to say!

Graig Livingstone ?
Racist Trump supporters hate opera? What would be the point of something like that?
Well the big “white powder” scare used to be anthrax, and we’ve got good tests for that now.
An angry Wagnerian.
It was to kill the wabbits.
Just causing a disturbance makes a person feel important. It was probably baby powder or the equivalent.
Could also have been a "domestic" directed at someone in the orchestra or the cast.
Is nothing sacred anymore? Not even the Met?
They are attacking the PINNACLE of Western art and culture.
A decade ago you could shut down anything in this country with a handful of talcum powder or creamora.
My brother and his wife had a similar experience when the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra went on strike. The musicians walked out that morning, but the PSO did not notify subscribers in advance.
Was this a “Live in HD” performance?

Oh, good gravy. What a nincompoop.
Having lived in the neighborhood of the Met, my first thought was somebody threw cocaine into the orchestra pit during the rousing overture and yelled, “Faster! Faster! Play faster!
“...an email blast to all of us when they decided to cancel was probably too difficult for their crack programmers...”
That is very disappointing for you. And yes, I suppose the Met could afford someone to handle that stuff.
Tonight hubby and I looked at the website of a banquet hall here in NJ that we *might* be going to for Thanksgiving, but now we don’t really want to because while there was NO mention of Thanksgiving, the 2016 Mother’s Day Brunch menu was still prominently featured.
Really? Can’t you please hire an 8th grader to manage your website?

That’s funny! I’d throw cocaine at the stage hands who control those hour-long scene changes.
I was actually in the audience at The Met when that young violinist was murdered. It was a ballet, actually, not an opera.
Well, you didn’t miss much with the cancellation of L’Italiana. I saw it last week. The singing is good, but the production is very silly. Like for a 12-year-old mentality. Couldn’t stand it.
