Relationship of Vitamin B12 Status and Parkinson's Disease Excerpt

Biosample and Tissue Resource, 2013

Objective/Rationale:
Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause a number of neurological symptoms, including instability, neuropathy (which may cause numbness and tingling) and cognitive defects. Recent studies in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients with neuropathy have shown that B12 deficiency is common. Also, we have recently observed that B12 levels decline over the course of PD. These observations have led us to hypothesize that concurrent B12 deficiency may contribute to overall decline in some patients.

B12 Therapy (one of it's indications)

For mental performance, the following doses have been taken by mouth: 0.05-1 milligram vitamin B12 taken daily for four weeks to 5.4 years; 10 micrograms or 50 micrograms of cyanocobalamin daily for one month; and one milligram of cyanocobalamin weekly for four weeks. One 1,000 microgram vitamin B12 injection has been used daily for five days, followed by one 1,000 microgram injection monthly for five months. Additionally, 1000 microgram injections have been used weekly for four weeks or monthly for six months.

MAYO CLINIC

Posting Note: I used Google to find the above information at the above link. It was there. I coped the above from there. When I attempted to re-use the link, it's been taken down.

This was only one of a number of indications.

B12 is a water soluable B vitamin. It is used to help with the formation of blood cells. Older people often need injections of B12 to make up for the diminishing of “intrinsic factor” which is necessary for the absorption of B12 in the stomach.

I self inject B12 weekly for weakness, muscle cramping & pain. Not sure specifically how it works, but I know when I’m not taking it. I have a chronic pain condition RSD and I am allergic to most pain meds. I also get cortisone injections every 4-5 months.

But I’d guess she was taking the B12 for energy, to combat fatigue.

It could relate to Neuropathy problem . Older people are prone to deficiency of B12 and it causes Neuropathy issues. This could also be related to her weakness in her legs. At least my Dad’s doctor related this info to me before he passed. My Father didn’t have much feelings in his legs and they treated him with B12.

B12 is for energy http://www.healthline.com/health/b12-vitamins-for-energy

Want a natural mood stabilizer St. John’s Wort, but since Cankles is Hypothyroid, that is a NO GO, just as SOY and Grapefruit are.

Want to sleep better try Selenium 200 mcg works better than Melatonin.
