Hillary Clintons campaign is working the refs hard when it comes to reports about her health.
While Clinton responded to a fit of coughing this week with humor, saying she was allergic to GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, her aides and surrogates played the role of bad cop.
Campaign spokesman Nick Merrill took to task an NBC reporter who wrote about the coughing spell, posting on Twitter that the writer should get a life.
The five-paragraph story, by Andrew Rafferty, was titled Hillary Clinton fights back coughing attack and reported that the frog in Clintons throat on Monday was one of the most aggressive shes had during her 2016 run.
Jon Favreau, a former speechwriter for President Obama, asked via Twitter if anyone on NBC, or anywhere else, was willing to defend the piece.
The pushback signaled that Clintons campaign intends to sharply counterattack news organizations that take questions about her health seriously.
Theyre trying to work the refs a little bit as they try to push back on the mainstream medias willingness to pick up on some of this stuff thats usually left to the fringes, Clinton surrogate Jim Manley explained.
The Drudge Report and other conservative media sites have largely driven the coverage of Clintons health, following the concussion she suffered in late 2012 and years before she announced her intention to run again for president.
But Manley said the Democrats camp has seen the coverage bleeding to the mainstream media in recent weeks.
After Trump insinuated recently that Clinton wasnt healthy, the campaign responded forcefully, ripping Trump allies for concocting fake documents from Clintons doctor.

Poor baby Comey. If the dress fits, he needs to wear it.
Or they'll take a page from ValJar's Enemy's List an exact revenge. Only Hitlery's list and revenge will cross even ValJar's degree and be a systematic fascisist purge not seen since since Stalin.
If anyone out there is good with PS, a Hillary Strigoi would be nice... :)
OMG. I haven’t posted in literally years, but comparing Hillary to Strigoi is SO AWESOME!! YES!!!!!
Clinton is one sick puppy.
And she has health issues, too.
Clinton has been a pathological lying, conniving basket case her whole life. She has been called out on numerous occasions and just keeps coming back like kudzu.
Clever pic! Very funny!!!
I’m hearing she was under contract negotiation, don’t know if she left or they told her to leave.
keyboard spew alert
And that was five years ago...
LOL
Hillary is too frail to handle the stress. They need to stop asking so many questions so she can get back on her nap schedule.
Days after Mr. Ailess exit, Ms. Van Susteren met with Mr. Murdoch in his second-floor office inside Foxs Manhattan headquarters. The anchor, accompanied by her husband and agent, John P. Coale, requested more favorable terms to her contract which was not immediately up for renewal and cited an exit clause that allowed her to leave the network in the event that Mr. Ailes was no longer chairman.
Mr. Murdoch was not impressed, both sides say. It was tense, Mr. Coale recalled in a telephone interview on Tuesday.
Late last week, Ms. Van Susteren informed Fox that she planned to invoke her exit clause. But she woke up on Tuesday fully expecting to tape her prime-time show, On the Record, that evening. Instead, Mr. Coale said, someone came to our house and delivered two letters from the network. The message: Shes out.
It was so abrupt that a large-scale poster of Ms. Van Susteren, who routinely beat the cable competition in her 7 p.m. time slot, was still displayed outside Foxs Manhattan building when the announcement went out. (The poster was removed later on Tuesday.) Inside the channels Washington bureau, newspapers sat untouched outside Ms. Van Susterens still-full office.
Ms. Van Susteren had initially defended Mr. Ailes, calling Ms. Carlson disgruntled and saying that the timing of her lawsuit is very suspicious. But on Tuesday, in a farewell post on Facebook, Ms. Van Susteren wrote: Fox has not felt like home to me for a few years.
Mr. Coale, in the interview, echoed that sentiment. Theres so much chaos at Fox, he said. Its very hard to work there.

Asked why his wife had exercised the exit clause, Mr. Coale said, Theres more than meets the eye, adding that there might be litigation in the future. But he provided no further details. Ms. Van Susteren, on Facebook, wrote that she had to leave the network now because of a time limit on her exit clause.
Remember the guy that got her to admit to wiping her server’like with a cloth’?
He was exposed in a sex scandal and rarely see him now. Ed Henry.
Always it’s the stories on the fringes that ought to be taken seriously, such as Obama’s country of birth, Whitewater, Huma, Clinton corruption, Bill’s bimbo eruptions, Benghazi...
RE: frog in her throat; unclean spirits
I so wanted to see what those white objects were that she coughed up. I thought immediately of possessed souls known to cough up strange things, even nails.
True. You can’t write a fiction mystery thriller nearly as good as what these grifters put out.
I have never seen anything even close.
