Military Making Officers’ Clubs ‘Inclusive,’ Open to All Ranks
Washington Free Beacon ^ | 8/4/16 | Elizabeth Harrington

The Army is changing the rules for one of its last remaining officers’ clubs to be more “inclusive,” opening membership at the storied Fort Myer watering hole to service members of any rank.

The commander of the instillation, which neighbors Arlington National Cemetery and is known officially as Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, cited George S. Patton, the famed general who carried ivory-handled pistols, was independently wealthy, and who spoke French, in opening up the elite club to enlisted men.

“Beginning Thursday, Sept. 1, service members of any rank or military branch will be able to dine at the historic club and will be eligible to apply for membership,” according to an Army news bulletin.

The club’s name, Fort Myer’s Officers’ Club or “O Club” for short, will also be changed, and the Army is taking suggestions from service members.

Good grief, and the hits just keep on coming to the military.

Many baes have converted clubs to all ranks clubs.

They can’t operate with a profit because all of the fun has been taken out of going.

As a retired officer, I will say the NCO club at Fort Jackson has better food than the O-Club. Great SOS!

I remember a Marine Corps company officer who had secured his unit and after received a call from battalion that the grass was too long in front of the company. Not wanting to call any of his men back he went and cut it himself. Base commander drove by and had his driver stop. He told the young officer if he wanted to be a private there was no problem making him one. He called in one of his men.

The Coast Guard has encouraged fraternization for a long time and has lots of problems directly linked to the lack of a barrier.

I thought "fraternization" was a violation of the UCMJ.

I think they ought to just do away with rank.

THis is one thing the military is doing that is not due to political correctness. Thanks to our own MPs and new alcohol laws, people don’t frequent on base clubs anymore. Millenials like to go out later and officers are frowned at if they are seen getting a snootful at the club. It is just not a good time anymore.

In his last months, Obama is like a graffiti vandal with cans of spray paint defacing and ruining all of America’s historical landmarks.

Maximum damage to the existing military structures is the goal.

Then it wouldn’t be an Officer’s Club anymore now would it?

Heh, good subtlety there!

I'll never forget the time I went to the O-Club with my Dad, when I was about 19. He introduced me to someone from his department, and the guy thought I was Dad's new wife!

Nothing new. As competition with the clubs, and a greater amount of supervision within them, has increased. the members have turned to the outside clubs. It has nothing to do with the rank breakdown, or who attends. But the outside the gates clubs are better set up to handle the things the military clubs cannot do. I saw the first of this at MacDill AFB in 1975 while I was stationed there. Seldom is there a split club set up on a military base/post anymore.

This is old news. I was at WPAFB and they had closed the O club years ago due to lack of interest/membership.

First went the NCO Club and now it’s the All Ranks Club.

Now the Officer’s Club will be a bigger versiono the All Ranks Club.

Only thing needed now is the LBGT/Tranny Club, can’t exclude those drag queens.

I think they ought to just do away with rank.

A requirement at a former assignment was for officers to be interviewed prior to being recommended for promotion. I had the pleasure of interviewing a new field grade officer who was a known liberal . My last "off the record" question was why should he receive more rank than other people who work just as hard. His long reply focused on the fact that he worked his whole career for the promotion and earned it. I told him that his political party would disown him if they heard his reply. HE is still a flaming liberal.

Familiarity breeds contempt. I guess there is enough contempt for the leadership of the Services that hanging out with the officers now isn’t going to make it any worse.

The irony:

When the “Let it ALL hang out” people take over,

THERE ISN’T ANY FUN ANY MORE.
