Trump praises Ryan's primary challenger (Nehlen!!)
CNN ^ | August 1, 2016 | Jeremy Diamond

(CNN)Donald Trump on Monday offered very public praise for a political candidate vying to unseat one of the top Republicans in Washington -- House Speaker Paul Ryan.

Trump, who is facing an onslaught of criticism from Ryan and other top Republicans for his comments about the Muslim family of a deceased US soldier, thanked Ryan's Republican primary challenger, Paul Nehlen, on Twitter Monday for his "kind words."

"Thanks to @pnehlen for your kinds words, very much appreciated," the Republican presidential nominee tweeted, in what amounts to an extraordinary show of discord between two of the most prominent faces of the Republican Party.

Nehlen, a businessman who like Trump has never held public office, has praised Trump and had recently tweeted articles and comments supporting the GOP nominee.

"My pleasure, Sir. Just want to Make America Great Again," Nehlen responded from his account 10 minutes after Trump's tweet.

Ryan campaign spokesman Zack Roday said their campaign will not "engage in a back-and-forth."

"The speaker is going to remain focused entirely on ensuring we deliver strong Republican majorities this fall," he said.

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Ryan endorsed Trump's presidential bid several weeks after he became the presumptive Republican nominee, but has not hesitated to criticize Trump and express his deep disapproval with some of Trump's more controversial words and proposals.

Ryan reiterated Sunday that he rejects Trump's call for a temporary ban on Muslim travel to the US after Trump took heat for criticizing the parents of Humayun Khan, a US Army captain who died in the Iraq War.

Trump’s just giving Ryan a tap for now. Tap tap.

This is a warning shot across the bow to Ryan, and a subtle signal to the Trump followers in WI.

If Trump schedules a rally in Janesville, you will know that it is bye, bye time for Paul Ryan. As I have said before, “We need to get the right Paul into Congress!”

You now what, CNN, just #### you.

They are reporting this in the hopes of showing how out of the mainstream GOP Trump is.

CNN reports NOTHING that would help Trump. EVER. At least not intentionally. It just works out that way sometimes :)

Ryan is obviously the enemy. Trump knows it. Trump will know how to handle this best.

Helps Trump. That's why one year of "did he go too far this time" got him a walk to the nomination (despite much gnashing of teeth, or eyes, or whatever.)

I don’t even know if this was a rap against Ryan. Ivanka is friends to Chelsea even though their parents are campaigning against each other. Why should Trump ignore/be rude to Nehlen just because he’s running against Ryan? If Nehlen loses, there still may be a place for him. Talent is talent.

(Go Nehlen!)

As much as I would love to see Trump go full in with Nehlen, I wouldn’t want him to tick off Ryan supporters (too much) for the general. I would rather see a President Trump and Representative Ryan than President Clinton and Representative Nehlen. I just hope the folks in WI can get this done themselves. Would be nice to have WI electoral votes if possible.

Yes, to be sure. I just imagine Trump is looking not only at the Presidency, but at the people in the Congress to whom he will have to turn for help with his programs. Ryan is like sCruze in that he’s all full of himself and thinks if he stiffs Trump, there’s a shot waiting for him in four years. Time is now to take him out. Come on Wisconsin, show us you care about the rest of the country!

I can’t say I know what the right play is. But I believe Trump knows and will execute, whatever it is.

That’s why Trump can’t go all in and endorse Nehlen. First, Ryan, despite the shady way he has gone about it, has endorsed Trump. Second, if Ryan wins his primary, then they are both running on the Republican ticket, and they have to work together if they both win. However, I think Trump would probably support Nehlen if he could.

Unfortunately, Ivanka is going to discover that many of her liberal “friends” are going to ditch her because her dad is an effective Republican. That is what liberals do to upper class people who are politically incorrect.

Yes. If it hasn’t happened it will. I would not be surprised if the wealthy Jewish democrats in NYC ostracized her and her husband.

Liberals can’t stand anyone that disagree with them

I can not recall a bad word about Ryan passing Trump’s lips this election. Ryan has undermined Trump repeatedly. Yesterday Nehlen stuck up for Trump when Ryan gratuitously undercut him yet again. Trump thanked Nehlen for doing so. I’d say this is almost as substantive an issue as Harambe. This is so stupid.
