Never let it be said that Newt Gingrich is predictable.
As the political world waits to see if the former Georgia congressman and U.S. House speaker gets tapped to be Donald Trumps running mate, Gingrich teamed up with his former Crossfire partner Van Jones to discuss this weeks shootings in Dallas, Baton Rouge and Minnesota.
Speaking on Facebook Live, Gingrich was his typically direct self. But, in this age of polarized politics, whether it be of the electoral or racial variety, Gingrichs comments were also remarkable. Here is the key quote:
It took me a long time, and a number of people talking to me through the years to get a sense of this. If you are a normal, white American, the truth is you dont understand being black in America and you instinctively under-estimate the level of discrimination and the level of additional risk.

Excellent Post!
Mixed here myself, but this example doesn’t really say anything to me other than that he’s paranoid. He doesn’t know if he would be subjected to a search or not, he was just “concerned that he might be”.
Please, Donald, don’t maked this guy your VP.
If you do, you will spend half of your time daily explaining and taking back things he said the previous day.
He is more than a loose cannon.
Perhaps Chief of Staff, maybe, but not VP. Not one heartbeat away from the presidency.
All I’m saying is if you like Elitists talking down to you, and telling you how smart they are versus how stupid you are, then you should love Newt’s spiel. It’s the DC Ruling Elitist, ‘We get it and you don’t,’ mantra writ large.
And Newt has no clue what it is like being white near a black neighborhood.
There he goes again.
“Calista and I ... Calista and I ... Calista and I ...”
Maybe he gets a beatdown from her if he doesn’t include her name in every other sentence.
If there was a simple safe and low cost medical procedure to make a black person look Caucasian, how many would do it?
I believe it is ‘GloriaLariva4President.com’ which bills itself as the ‘Party for Socialism and Liberation’ in New Mexico.
Pass me some Advil, please. (thanks)
Newt’s context here is relations with the police. Other topics, like affirmative action, may not answer the point he’s making.
When I want insight into the black american experience, I know I always look to Newt Gingrich.
Doesn’t surprise me at at all. The Bad Newtie got out of bed this morning. Later in the day, for no explicable reason, indeed, not even one that he can either understand or predict, the Good Newtie will pop out and do something great. That’s the problem: Newtie is a hopelessly unreliable flake, making him a horrible VP choice.
“Its that idiotic 100% or nothing approach the right loves to die on.”
Exactly! And the are the people who will withhold their vote unless a candidate is everything they want.
As a black person, I say shove it Newt! Nobody can entirely understand the experience of anyone else, regardless of race, class, gender, nationality, religion, etc., but it’s certainly possible for anyone to somewhat understand the experience of anyone else, again regardless of race, class, gender, nationality, religion, etc. The black/white divide is not something that’s singularly difficult to cross, for the most part we speak the same language, share much of the same history and culture. Gimme a break!
“blacks who are born and raised in America”
This is the demographic to which I was referring.
Problem is I do understand many of the blacks. Newt is done for me.
Opinion seems to change hourly.
Black people do not understand the level of concern white people feel when surrounded by black thugs. I have been literally attacked by mobs in the past. This is 20-30 years ago. This goes beyond hatred of police. Many blacks hate white people (and Jews and Asians). Without the police, it would be monstrous like people cannot imagine.
