Whos even more powerful than the king? The person who gets to pick the king. And as of this morning that person is, quite possibly, FBI Director James Comey.
Todays Morning Joe reported breaking news from the New York Times: Attorney General Loretta Lynch has decided that she will accept the recommendation of the FBI regarding its investigation of Hillary Clintons e-mails. If Comey recommends against an indictment of Hillary, that would lift a huge cloud that has been dragging her candidacy down. It would put Hillary in a very strong position to become the next president. But should Comey recommend the indictment of Hillary, her candidacy would effectively be destroyed. Dems might scramble to replace her as their candidate, but in any case Donald Trump would be well-positioned to win the election.

Yesterday’s WaPo claims that the meeting was casually initiated by Bill Clinton:
However, it’s not clear to me that BC would dare initiate such a meeting and that Lynch would accept the notion of a meeting, unless a fix was already in, *and* both of them felt that they had a total MSM blackout in place...
That would be a massive propaganda coup for Trump. Comey is definitely on the hot seat!
I’ve been scratching my head to figure out what they might do. Your prediction is probably the best.
Isn’t it nice not to be tearing each other’s throats out over Trump vs. Cruz?
Separately, just a news tidbit, Catherine Herridge on FoxNews just said she's never seen such aggressive damage control in the 15 years she's been a newsie.
I’m going to agree with you in the face of the very deep cynicism on this thread.
I think Comey won’t disappoint. There’s all kinds of tricks that can be played with a Grand Jury though.
The fix might also include how they are going to deal with Comey. He could be a real problem if he goes off the reservation and comes down with some strong recommendations. No doubt they are thinking ahead of how to disparage his character, question his motivations and paint him as having a political vendetta. That’s the Clinton Smear Machine’s typical modus operandi.
Under the new circumstances with this meeting, it seems to me that if Comey does *not* recommend indictment, then the entire FBI becomes a farce organization... maybe Bill tipped the decision in an unintended way... big stakes poker here...
Comey is definitely on the hot seat!
*************
You can be certain that there will be an all out effort to discredit him. Comey is going to have to walk over some hot coals.
damage control in what sense?
If Comey recommends indictment and Lynch refuses to indict, I’d say it would create a political/constitutional crisis that would be even more damaging to Hillary than an indictment.
The article says otherwise =>
Attorney General Loretta Lynch has decided that she will accept the recommendation of the FBI regarding its investigation of Hillary Clintons e-mails.
Well sure, if you could get it in front of the Cameras in such a way that it cannot be denied that Comey recommended indictment. However, I do not believe that is how they play this game.
Comey will "decide for himself" not to recommend indictment. At least he will if he knows what is good for him.
They will point to his "decision" and then tell everyone "all is well."
Justifying the Lynch/Comey meeting, and avoiding questions about the underlying actions by the Clintons (email server and foundation)
Agree. There's no way that evil pig Shrillary gets so much a slap on the wrist, much less indicted.
Comey is on the hot seat and there are no pleasant alternatives for him. Nevertheless, he must recommend YEA or NAY on charges.
Yes, I know. But look for stories that involve the FBI recommending charges. Nearly all of those stories involve Clinton. Google: FBI recommends charge -hillary -clinton <- not many stories, and even those read like a press interpretation of the formal protocol.
The notion that the "FBI recommends charges" is a fiction, unless you stretch "recommends" to include findings of probable cause (used by the FBI to justify arrest before charging or indictment), or the implied recommendation when a file is forwarded from the investigator to the prosecutor.
Investigators generally do NOT forward an investigation file where the investigator does not believe a crime was committed or a charge could be brought. Certain exceptions exist, homicide involving self defense, deadly force by the government, etc.
According to the screencap she said she would accept the “prosecutors’” decision, not the FBI’s.
If it is the former, the fix is still in. DoJ prosecutors are political appointees.
The various comments on the various threads are all over the board. Veerrry interesting
Bottom line. we don’t know and even if we did know today, that knowledge might be obsolete tomorrow.
Perhaps it is an exaggeration, but we are dealing with the assassination of Julius Caesar here.
Will we have a Republic or a dictator? A non warrior woman dictator, no less.
