You cant make it uptheres a 25 percent or so chance that an unhinged demagogue will be Americas next commander in chief.
A few years ago I started noodling on a novel that I hoped would expose the fault lines that seemed to be splitting our politics. My thought was to take reality and push it to the edge both for comic affect and to offer up a cautionary tale of where our politics might be headed. I finished the book in the summer of 2015 and I was a little worried that I had gone too far. How believable would it be that a xenophobic Republican who wanted to ban immigration and deport millions might actually be a real contender for president?
Well, now we know. Donald Trump hasnt called for a new Bill of Rights like Armstrong George, the handsome fire-breather in my novel, The Innocent Have Nothing To Fear, but hes the first candidate whos running as if the Bill of Rights doesnt exist. (If we get through this election without some reporter asking Trump if he can name the amendments in the Bill of Rights, it will be a crying shame.) Even while channeling my darkest impulsesand Lord knows we all have them, which is probably the key to Trumps success so farit never occurred to me that a candidate for president of the United States of America could call for a religious test to enter the United States without being considered a frothing lunatic.
Hillary has a 25% chance?
Wasn’t this boob Mitt Romney’s campaign manager? Those who can’t, teach.
Good one.
Funny, I'll bet he didn't complain about that when Obama was elected in 2008 and again in 2012.
The scariest part of this, and the part that proves that we need Donald Trump, or someone just like him, in the White House, is that people like the author actually exist and think they are normal.
“it never occurred to me that a candidate for president of the United States of America could call for a religious test to enter the United States without being considered a frothing lunatic.”
The Left calls for “religious tests” all the time. You lose your job, get fined, go to jail, get banned, and on and on and on if you don’t subscribe to their worldview.
America had de facto religious tests for immigration for almost 200 years of its existence.
So...in summary he’s a fiction writer pimping his book by creating more fiction.
“...but hes the first candidate whos running as if the Bill of Rights doesnt exist.”
Hillary wants the press to report anything she says without digging any deeper.
Hillary would happily abolish the 2nd amendment
Hillary would happily use the FEC to censor Fox News and any web content with which she disagrees (e.g. FreeRepublic)
But TRUMP is the candidate running as if the Bill of Rights doesn’t exist? Which portion of the Bill of Rights is he proposing to eliminate?
The Bill of Rights applies to citizens and those already in the US. It does not apply to citizens of Germany in Berlin. By definition, an immigrant is a citizen of a foreign nation and not protected under our Bill of Rights. Or to citizens of Iran in Tehran. Trump isn’t looking to abolish freedom of religion because he called for a ban on muslim immigrants.
To the best of my knowledge, he has never called for restricting speech (he’s called for the opposite, in fact), or for restricting what the press can/can’t say. Or abolishing private gun ownership etc...Much like everything else, this guy is a leftist projecting his own fears about what he’d do with power onto the vision of who he hates (Trump).
Disgrace.
That’s great. Freddie Blassie was da man (like Trump). All those guys were cool, “Killer” Kowalski, Gorilla Monsoon, “Professor” Toru Tanaka. All “heels” in the ring, and it was so much fun to jeer them and root for the “face”, but they were the nicest guys you’d meet outside the ring.
The author misspelled “Barack Obama”. Or perhaps “Hillary Clinton”.
I hope Trump wins and hurts these Establishment jerks.
You are correct and obviously know the business. I can remember my late GrandDad watching ‘wrasslin’ on an old black & white TV on Friday nights, this was just prior to Gorgeous George retiring from the ring, I remember seeing Chief Jay Strongbow and marveled at his sleeper hold.
For all the scripting that is rumored to go on (what? wrestling scripted? who knew!?!) one match I’m convinced was NOT scripted was a grudge match I saw at the Capitol Center near Laurel Maryland in the late 70’s, former champion Bruno Sammartino came out of retirement to face Niklolai Volkoff, and not sure how it happened (deliberate, accident?), but Volkoff kicked Bruno right in the groin, and he was obviously in pain, but after a few moments, Bruno recovered sufficiently to open up a serious can of whoop-ass on Volkoff, if that was staged, it was worthy of an Academy Award, lol
Great times! :)
Inorite? We are indeed fortunate that there is someone with the backbone to step up and represent the millions of people who are fed up with lack of immigration control and open door policies.
I think "xenophobic" is a bit strong, though. A better word choice would be "patriotic." There is nothing wrong with wanting to protect ones borders against foreign invaders... history is full of countries that did not survive because they couldn't stop the invaders. Ever hear of the Vikings? The Mongolian hordes?
“You cant make it uptheres a 25 percent or so chance that an unhinged demagogue will be Americas next commander in chief.”
Considering the fact that the definition of “unhinged demagogue” has been changed by the Liberal Left to mean someone who believes in free speech, free enterprise, personal liberty, freedom of association and all the things we used to enjoy as Americans; I do so hope and pray that it comes to pass. At this point, my vote is for the “unhinged demagogue” over the America hating, globalist Left. My children and grandchildren’s future depends on it.
