NBC NY ^ | 21 JUN 16 | By Pei-Sze Cheng and Jonathan Dienst

Three people were arrested with multiple loaded guns, rifles and ballistic vests at the Holland Tunnel Tuesday when police stopped them for driving with a cracked windshield, authorities tell NBC 4 New York.

The three individuals, two men in their 50s and a woman in her 20s who may be from Pennsylvania, were stopped on the New Jersey side of the tunnel around 8 a.m., authorities said. A search of their vehicle revealed the weapons cache.

The guns seized included long-range weapons as well as handguns. A camouflage helmet with what appeared to be night goggles was also recovered.

Could have been a K-9 unit was at the stop and sniffed the drugs. No consent required for reasonable suspicion sweep of vehicle exterior with K-9. K-9 alerts = immediate probable cause for search entire vehicle, no consent required.

True enough. I wish the article said.

“I’d be interested to know what they intended for these weapons, and if they’re authorized to own them.”

Since WHEN does a free American have to be AUTHORIZED to possess firearms???? What jurisdiction??? NOT TEXAS.

I just read up on the case in question and the SCOTUS ruling. You’re lying. You say “ANY” stop, which is utterly false. The case in question had special circumstances, including an outstanding warrant and a tip about drug activity.

Sotomayor’s racial b.s. commentary in her dissent was sickening

They’re from Pennsylvania so it’s possible they’re Amish, right? Ok, no. I’m not buying that either.

I say “any” stop because that’s how every police department in the USA will read it if it suits them...and then I really don’t expect too many courts to stop them.

Some people are “un-authorized” to own guns. The following, for example, may *not* own guns:

Persons under indictment for, or convicted of, any felony crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year;

Fugitives from justice;

Persons who are unlawful users of, or addicted to, any controlled substance;

Persons who have been declared by a court as mental defectives or have been committed to a mental institution;

Illegal aliens or aliens who were admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa;

Persons who have been dishonorably discharged from the Armed Forces;

Persons who have renounced their United States citizenship;

Persons subject to certain types of restraining orders; and

Persons who have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.

So, are these people illegal immigrants? If so, they are not authorized to own these guns. Are they convicted of a felony crime or unlawful users of controlled substances? If so, they are not authorized to own these guns.

Gun laws exist.

If they ever get out, someone needs to tell them that the idea is you put the camo on the outside, not inside.

The part about the windshield being cracked as the basis for the stop is BS. NJ is notorious for using automatic license plate readers to ID CCW holders then stop them and harass the hell out of them. Most likely the cars plate showed the owner of record had a CCW. Insomuch as they were from Pennsylvania that would be a possibility

Alternatively the approaches of the tunnel are supposed to be monitored by side scan X-ray that allows a quick peek inside the car. Coming through NJ into NYC with that weaponry in your car these days is almost Darwin level stupidity.

” Is MD more reasonable than I’ve heard? “

Was it Mariland where they took that guys car apart because they new he had a CCW from his home state and they wanted to catch him with a gun?
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
I hadn’t personally experienced it but on US 50 in West Virginia there is a stretch that runs into MD.
Considering WV, VA, PA have sensible Carry Laws, the rumor was the MD Police were targeting WV & VA vehicles and were able to run the tags to see if the owner had a permit etc.

Like I said, I never observed it and no longer ‘run it like I used to’, but I don’t recall EVER seeing a MD State Cop on that stretch of highway...

Back when MD was taking hits for profiling certain vehicles and the occupants, I was running from VA to Philly every night, 6 nights a week in my POV F250 work van carrying different stuff to trade with a NY driver.

I was ‘prepared’ for my stop as I figured ‘they (MSP’ would bag a few ‘white drivers’ just to keep their average up.

My thought out plan was - if stopped - and asked about a random search my comment was going to be
“Personally, I don’t care - everything behind the ‘cage’ is under an invoice and everything is sealed.
Now, give me a minute and I will call these different lawyers and ask if they mind your searching them”.

However, since I believe in keeping control of my vehicle, stay with 5 MPH or so of the speed limit, don’t tailgate at high speeds, use turn signals, don’t drive with high beams (All examples are probably reasons for the ‘minorities’ getting stopped as at 65 MPH at 0300 on a dark highway, kind of hard to casually spot who the driver and passengers are.

Never did get stopped, probably my VN Vet license plates, and stickers on the rear had something to do with it also.

The label has a warning. “Looks real, do not take where real ammunition is not allowed!”

>>>>“That does seem to represent a lot of firepower.”

>>Not particularly. A shotgun, a semi-auto rifle and a few handguns. That looks like a light day at the range for a lot of guys.

This. My comment on the other thread is that the police haul here is light for a FReeper gun safe, on the heavy side for everyday carry.

“Looks real, do not take where real ammunition is not allowed!”

Because anyone could be carrying an M2 machine gun in their pocket :)

Somebody at work used to have a .45-70 round, with no primer or powder, on display. I told him HR would freak out if they say it, and he took it home...its the world we live in.
