Former President Bill Clinton said Tuesday that more people would have died at the terrorist attack at a nightclub in Orlando over the weekend if club-goers had been armed and shot back at the lone gunman.
Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg Live at the Clinton Global Initiative, the former president was asked to respond to Donald Trump
’s claim that there would have been fewer deaths if those at the nightclub had been carrying firearms.
“Did you see how dark it was?” Clinton said. “It’s likely that more people would have been killed.”
A gunman of Afghan descent who claims to have been inspired by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria killed 49 people and wounded dozens more in an attack on a gay nightclub in Orlando in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Omar Mateen, who was killed after an hours-long stand-off with police, was armed with a handgun and an AR-15 rifle affixed with high-capacity magazines that permit the rapid firing of ammunition.
It was the worst mass shooting in U.S. history and worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11.
The tragedy has reignited debate over the nation’s gun, immigration and intelligence gathering laws, as well as political correctness and the nature of Islam.
Clinton on Tuesday pushed for a ban on “assault weapons,” arguing that gun deaths dropped sharply after he signed a ban as president in the 1994. The act expired in 2004.
“It worked pretty well,” Clinton said of the ban.. “Then when it was allowed to expire. For a while we didn’t seem to have uptick in crime, but look at what happened with big weapons at Sandy Hook and Aurora, Colorado and most recently in Orlando and San Bernardino, California.”
“It’s clear that if you’re firing a lot of ammunition in a short amount of time with a weapon designed to kill, more people will die than if you’re stuck with a pistol,” Clinton continued. “If [the Orlando shooter] just had a pistol, nobody believes he could have killed 49 people.”
I know one guy who would have had several magazines unloaded into him got sure and the casualty list would probably have been 5 times lower minimum.
Anything that comes out of the Clinton’s mouths is either a lie or some form of solicitation for profit or vice

Bill’s ignorance is amazing and staggering and shows even a rudimentary knowledge of firearms. You know he could ask one of SS detail about firearms and get a correct answer.
So having no weapons to defend yourself was good and it was better to submit to one’s death. Then we have the police who were outside and continued to allow this guy to kill for three hours. It is mind boggling.

I’ve got a really good question for Billy... How many would have lived had the club had real exits? How many times do disasters have to happen at these types of clubs before there’s actual escape routes?
Had this guy just walked in, plopped down a couple pressure cooker bombs after shooting the unarmed security outside, the dead would have been piled much higher.
When you get down to it, the fact he chose to use a ‘sexy weapon’ instead of the bombs used by his idols in Boston saved lives. And yet another club without the ability to evacuate the building in under 3 minutes became a death trap for those inside.
I’m sure Bill & Hill are getting rid of their armed guards ASAP..........right, just like I’m picking up my Lamborghini tomorrow.

A coward looking for a will not enter a room of armed people. So there would have been no loss of life at all.
Now that Clinton comment is stupid.
Maybe he meant to say that some people would have been shot by accident from those firing at the attacker—that would likely happen in the confusion. But, that’s not the same as saying armed civilians would have just shot only each other, adding to the carnage but leaving the shooter untouched.

Forty-nine people dead. It’s hard to imagine how it could have been any worse if some of the patrons were armed.
My Glock 30s is at the gun shop getting a smoother lighter trigger job. I put in a Tungsten recoil spring for weight, and had it Magna ported both will keep the muzzle more level for quicker follow up shots.
Had someone be carrying a 45acp like this that guy would have been dropped with on shot 97% of the time. I would have shot a group of 3.
