The ironic thing is that the Stanley Cup is still going on. San Jose Sharks won last night.
I remember in Hartford meeting Mr. Hockey very briefly, in the front office for the then Hartford Whalers.
1970— Stanley Cup finals end on
Mother’s Day, May 10—Bos beats St Louis
2016—if it goes 7 games, the Cup
finals will end on June 15
Never heard of Howe. RIP.
Considering that on the east coast right now, the weather is very decent.
1978—Bill Rasmussen fired by Whalers
and Gordie Howe enterprises. He and his
son Scott would quickly go on to found
what they originally intended to be
a regional cable-satellite network. It
winds up being ESPN (as told in book
ESPN:Those Guys Have All the Fun)
I would not be all that surprised if the NHL will retire #9 just as the MLB did to Jackie Robinson’s #42.
History could be made again, depending on how strong San Jose or Pittsburgh could be, we could very well see a possible Game 7.
I’ve met Gordie and his sons back during their time with the Houston Aeros. Always a true gentleman and a true champion. He played hard and he played to win and he used every trick in the book to beat you on the ice but he never let it carry over to the next game. The WHA may not have existed without Gordie or spawned four teams that were absorbed into the NHL (sadly, not Houston which still amazingly has no NHL team while places like Miami and Phoenix do).
He led a full and successful life. #9RIP
I asked this the other day and was told he was a believer of a different “sect” of Islam. I probably worded that wrong but I think you understand what I am trying to say.
I think Nation of Islam.
I forgot he was also in Houston.
RIP! A true gentleman!
I’m a lot more pro-Gordie Howe but I’m sure the media isn’t.
ML/NJ
Sure, Howe won't get the coverage in his funeral that Muhammad Ali gets; but here in North America, there will be many will honor and remember him for being such a huge ambassador to the sport.
RIP Mr Howe.
Legend!
Back in the day he had (or loaned his name to) a great restaurant in Glastonbury, CT called Gordie's Place. I'm pretty sure he lived in Glastonbury for several years.
He was one of the giants of the NHL, and from all accounts, an overall good guy. Rest in Peace, Gordie...
