Ever since talk radio, cable news and the Internet emerged in the 1990s as potent political forces on the right, Republicans have used those media to attack their opponents through a now-familiar two-step.
Political operatives would secretly place damaging information with friendly outlets like The Drudge Report and Fox News and with radio hosts like Rush Limbaugh and then they would work to get the same information absorbed into the mainstream media.
Candidates themselves would avoid being seen slinging mud, if possible, so as to avoid coming across as undignified or desperate.

Newspaper of Record, my @$$!

“Yet by personally broaching topics like Bill Clintons marital indiscretions...”
Multiple accusations of sexual assault and rape are not “marital indiscretions”, “affairs” or “dalliances”. Talking about how Hillary and her friends organized campaigns to destroy those women’s lives not a “conspiracy theory”.
NYT in high-wattage projection mode.
Best election evah!
Pray America wakes
As for the Alex Jones comment that Michelle is a man. A man? No. A wookie? Yes.
Yeah, so says the left wing liars at the nyslimes.
What a deceptive article title. There are at least 3 LIES in these few words. A fact-based article would be titled “Americans rejoice as Trump speaks truth, exposing leftist media hypocrisy and cover-ups that support their chosen Democratic operatives.”
“Political operatives would secretly place damaging information with friendly outlets like The Drudge Report and Fox News and with radio hosts like Rush Limbaugh...”
Silly me, I thought it was supposed to be the job of the media to report important stories objectively, and not to judge whether something was “too damaging” to report.
“As outlined in the Washington Post:
[ ] When asked in an interview last week about the Foster case, Trump dealt with it as he has with many edgy topics raising doubts about the official version of events even as he says he does not plan to talk about it on the campaign trail.
He called theories of possible foul play very serious and the circumstances of Fosters death very fishy.
He had intimate knowledge of what was going on, Trump said, speaking of Fosters relationship with the Clintons at the time. He knew everything that was going on, and then all of a sudden he committed suicide.
He added, I dont bring [Fosters death] up because I dont know enough to really discuss it. I will say there are people who continue to bring it up because they think it was absolutely a murder. I dont do that because I dont think its fair. (link)
But the truth of origination with a reporter bringing up the issue didnt stop Jake Tapper from attributing the entire conversation as originating with Donald Trump.”
Note to NY Slimes....
According to Ben Rhodes, the Alinsky crowd owns you!
“Bush Knew” is not a conspiracy theory of the right wing.
Drudge is obsolete under Trump. No need for a middleman.
Right-wing media? There isn’t much left of that. Half of conservative radio has been left in tatters, including the mush-mouth Rush, due to Never Trump and/or Cruz at any Cost.
The lamestream media won't report the truth.
After the 26-year-old model put on the bikini and when she came out, Hillary said, "wow".
My only thought is, what purports to be the “mainstream media” will, if the story continues for any length of time, have a real hard time explaining 2 bullet holes to the head of a man who supposedly committed suicide.
CA....
This process is exactly reversed for Democrats.
