They just don’t get it.

They just keep thinking that they need just a little bit more government control to make it all better.

Hey socialists! Here’s something to think about while you’re meditating.

“What if I’m wrong? What if I don’t actually know more than the rest of humanity combined?”

Venezuela’s socialist rulers have belatedly realized if something costs virtually nothing... surprise - nothing is available.

The kicker is now its going to be available but you can’t afford it! See how it works?

Bolivarian 21st Century socialism finding its way through the mud.

“The socialist government of President Nicolas Maduro had kept the price of corn flour frozen for 15 months at 19 bolivares a kilogram (two pounds).”

Sure, and let’s just call pi = 3.

“Venezuela’s oil-dependent economy has been crippled by the plunge in price of petroleum on global markets.”

Yea, that’s it. It’s not the fact that the government tries to control everything and always screws it up, is it?

I see Yahoo is continuing the lie:Venezuela's oil-dependent economy has been crippled by the plunge in price of petroleum on global markets.

This ignores the shortages that happened when oil was $100 a barrel.

At the official exchange rate, a kilo of chicken will set you back an astounding $89 USD. Well, unless you exchange on the black market, then it is a mere $0.85 USD. Additionally, since the largest bill is the 100 Bolivar, to get that chicken, you'll have to fork over at least 9 bills.

IF there were markets like there were before the massive embezzlement took place, you can imagine what the backpack full of cash would feel like in doing the weekly shopping.

Venezuela has same hold on the people as North Korea.

Submit or starve.

Ah, the joys of communism.

Uh, no. The title is wrong. The VALUE of the Venezuelan currency has decreased 90%.

I would suspect the cost in silver or gold has gone DOWN.

Will this make it on the NPR nightly news?

Didn’t think so.

Will Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff find the time to report of the insane number of rapes and sexual assaults by muslim refugees? Surely they’ll discuss the ‘rape trees’ just over the border.

No time for that either?

The most frightening aspect of this great social experiment is realizing how much abuse the populace will endure without exploding into a full-blown revolution. I had expected blood in the streets by now. I thought the Latins were more hot-blooded than that. Socialism needs a violent overthrow!

At the former price of about 86 cents per pound they couldn’t cover the cost of production?

“Flour is one of the most scarce food basics, and the Venezuelan Association of Corn Flour Industrialists has been asking for a price increase, arguing that the low government-set price does not cover the cost of production.”

I can buy corn meal/flour here for 50 to 70 cents per pound retail.

We have to study Venezuela to prepare for what either Bernie or the Hilldebeeste will do to the US.

Harina Pan - the absolute staple of the Venezuelan diet. Makes arepas, empanadas, all kinds of yummy stuff. We still have arepas every Christmas morning, 40 years after coming home. Hell, toilet paper is more dispensable than Harina Pan!
