REDMOND, Ore. B.J. Soper took aim with his AR-15 semiautomatic rifle and fired a dozen shots at a human silhouette target. Sopers wife and their 16-year-old daughter practiced drawing pistols. Then Soper helped his 4-year-old daughter, in pink sneakers and a ponytail, work on her marksmanship with a .22-caliber rifle.
Deep in the heart of a vast U.S. military training ground, surrounded by spent shotgun shells and juniper trees blasted to shreds, the Central Oregon Constitutional Guard was conducting its weekly firearms training.
The intent is to be able to work together and defend ourselves if we need to, said Soper, 40, a building contractor who is an emerging leader in a growing national movement rooted in distrust of the federal government, one that increasingly finds itself in armed conflicts with authorities.
Those in the movement call themselves patriots, demanding that the federal government adhere to the Constitution and stop what they see as systematic abuse of land rights, gun rights, freedom of speech and other liberties.
Law enforcement officials call them dangerous, delusional and sometimes violent, and say that their numbers are growing amid a wave of anger at the government that has been gaining strength since 2008, a surge that coincided with the election of the first black U.S. president and a crippling economic recession.

B.J. Soper could become an American Super Hero. The writers at the Washington Post, as far as I can see do not show signs of being REAL men like B.J. They are more along the lines of “metro-men.” I, personally, think that our federal government and the major news media probably have a population where the majority are members of the LGBT community. Might as well say it. They do NOT like courageous men such as we used to have in the military. You know, those who would sacrifice even their lives for freedom, women and children. I sense that people like B.J. are the real people and not those rich folks who live on the East and West coasts. We know that governments, when they grow too big, usually turn tyrannical. Americans are not all ignorant about that and the Washington Post might be getting ready to find out that, rather than to picture B.J. and his followers as ignorant dissidents as the WaPo wants, many more Americans might be ready to heave a sigh of relief that some courageous people really “get it.”
Yeah, but those people aren’t a threat to anything. It’s those evil freedom loving, bible totin’(maybe), gun worshipping, constitution respecting, small govt embracing, fly-over country, backwards cap wearin’, red neck hill billys that are the problem. Love freedom? Love the constitution and what this country was founded as? You are BAD!
The WAPO didn't "miss" anything. They do it on purpose.
Boy, oh boy. They sound afraid. The anti-Free-America snowflakes are beginning to realize that their “safe places” are an illusion. Hahaha. My Freedom laughs at these preening tyrants.
Pretty soon liberals will propose that legacy media fish wrappers be given free special fourth class postage just to keep the landfills overflowing.
Articles like this are rare. This made me wonder whether the Washington Post had a “stimulatory motive” in putting it on the front page. Could it be?

BS! I was in a militia in 1995 as the result of Bill Clinton’s overreaches, Waco, Ruby Ridge, the Assault Weapons Ban and the ridiculous magazine limit. I knew that the Constitution was on the chopping block back then.
When I see Obama, I don’t see black. I see red of communism and the green of islam.
Indeed. I’d tell you what sort of guns I have, but that would spoil the surprise.
