Donald Trump is considering former House Speaker Newt Gingrich as one possible option for his running mate in November, according to a source familiar with the discussions...

Gingrich has praised Trump in the past, telling TIME he has “the potential to be an extraordinarily dynamic president who shakes up a bureaucratic city that badly needs to be shaken up.”

Originally from Georgia. Has lived in VA since his resignation I believe.

He was my Congressman when he was first elected. He was throughout his career. In the past here I have been critical of Newt because of a few things I experienced as a constituent and how his Speakership and term ended.

That said, I’m just going to not worry about it right now, there are many other possible matches Trump could pick also. However I do have sympathy about your qualms about faded figures from the past. We are engaged in a battle now to keep the worst one from getting back into that White House.

between them, how many wives?

ONE, at a time. This is America, in case you haven't heard, divorce is legal.

If divorce offends your sensibilities, vote for hildabbutchbitch, she has had only one marriage license.

I think he needs a northern blue state governor like Scott Walker.

It’s hard to find someone that isn’t a Free Traitor™ and isn’t in the pocket of the Cheap Labor Express. It is hard job to find someone like that.

Gingrich is one of the best ideas men of the last generation. He is also very effective at presenting the conservative agenda in positive, cheerful, and inclusive terms. I voted for him in the primary when he ran for president, although that was a protest vote as the nomination had already been settled.

That said, Gingrich is electoral poison, for all the familiar too-much-baggage, too-odd reasons. Trump would be a fool to choose one of the few major figures in American politics even more unpopular than himself ... but Trump is ... oh, never mind.

Trust TRUMP.

He knows exactly who and what he needs to make America great again.

He’ll pick a partner he can trust.

I don't think it will be him, he brings no help in any swing state, and has a lot of baggage. He would be a great attack dog, whoever it is needs to be a competent attack dog much like Newt could be.

I think he would be excellent as Chief of Staff (helping navigate congressional waters, one of the attributes Trump has said he needs in his Veep choice), or even more fun: Press Secretary.

I would tune in to every press conference, would watch each one multiple times. There wouldn't be better entertainment for decades.

I do think he will be part of the Trump team somewhere, and would help greatly with the things Newt is good at.

Agree. CoS would let Newt work behind the scenes and pull the strings that need to be pulled. Trump needs a VP that can will let him play “good cop/bad cop” with the media, congress, etc.

“Newt weighs about 275.”

That alone doesn’t worry me. Does he have a bad medical history?

“Yet his real strength is his knowledge of what has gone on before, what has worked and what has failed.”

I can follow that but can he sell it to the millions of those who have zero knowledge of REAL history but a huge knowledge of FALSE history? We have a very large population who believe such nonsense as George Wallace was a Republican and Richard Nixon was impeached but Bill Clinton was NOT. Ignorance among the electorate is massive.

My only concern is Newt’s age, 72. — Trump is 70.

The problem I see with this is that Newt would be 80 when time to be Trump's successor. So I agree, Chief of Staff is best fit.

We need go win the election and we can’t take any chances.

Therefore, Newt is a very bad choice.

Newt doesn’t win a state, and he doesn’t enhance a demographic. (This clearly eliminates Sessions, Hunter, Cruz, and Demint as well.) He has baggage out the wazoo. He supports AGW. He is way too old. He was a terrible husband. Any expertise he brings can be used if he had an advisory role, so he doesn’t need to be VP to do that.

Hopefully this is a diversion. Trump is smarter than this.

Works for me - plus, Newt has been thoroughly vetted from his last run - no nasty surprises to nip at his ankles....

Love the concept but the reality is he will need to get someone who can lock down a blue or purple state, and also to some extent appease the establishment.... at least on paper.

Chief of staff, not VP.

That would work.

"Newt for Chief of Staff; Chris Christie for VP; Carson for Surgeon General; Palin to head the RNC... Offer Cruz ambassador to Haiti."

Here is the start of my dream team....

* Newt as VP
* Christie as Press Secretary ( oh boy grab the popcorn!)
* Guliani as Homeland Security
* Bolton as Sec of State.
* Alan West, Sec-Def, but I know that is a long shot.
* Another Long shot Former Ford CEO Alan Mulally as Chief of Staff ( think about it, ultimate team manager )
* At the Combo EPA-Dept of Energy, Interior and BLM? Sarah Palin. call it "The Dept of Resource Mgt"
* Dr Ben Carson @ HHS or Veterans Administration, his MD background at VA would be a G_d send. I think the Task Trump has him on is his Job Interview...
