Lack of principles? Placing a temporary moratorium on Muslim immigration until we figure out what’s going on would indeed be a highly principled commonsense act, but I don’t think this was ever part of Trump’s original plan. And it was no part of anyone’s plan. If I remember correctly, Trump just kind of threw it out there during a campaign rally a day or two after the San Bernardino Muslim terrorist attack. It caught in like wildfire amongst his supporters, but the entire ruling class (other than possibly Jeff Sessions) and all fellow candidates and “conservative” pundits immediately pooh-pooed the idea as being unconstitutional.
We’ll see. I hope he gets it done, but it would be a Herculean task.

To my knowledge he never called for a permanent ban as he indicates above.CNN mischaracterized his words.
He’s gonna end up just barely to the right of Hillary pretty soon, maybe close enough to hold hands.
But...if he’s the nominee...I’ll vote for him...
Still haven’t seen or heard the recording of Trump saying it was a suggestion. The media has been misquoting Trump for ages trying to make him look like a flip flopper.

This is the only issue that led me to support him. If he was being dishonest about his position on muslims entering the US, I see no reason to continue that support.
Now watch for people to get hung up on policy proposals and call Trump a flip-flopper. Nevermind that banning Muslims was never the point in itself.
The end goal is to keep Americans safe by having reasonable vetting procedures in place to screen out potential Jihadists among Muslim migrants. The goal hasn’t changed, and the policy means towards attaining it were always going to be mutable.
If the compromise is to do it by country, huge win. If the compromise is to do nothing, then damn.
Just because they aren't banned on the basis of religion doesn't mean they still won't get banned. The majority of the US legal system is based on nationality, not religion.
This was picked up by CNN in the MSM echo chamber. I believe it was originally n a Brit paper and related directly to the new Mayor of London. Read that actual quote instead of the headline, always a good idea. Unless, of course, the headline confirms your own thinking instead of what was said.
This would be considered unconstitutional. There is no way they couldn’t find a judge to stop it. Trump is being realistic. Our country sucks. I guess Trump could have continued saying it to make us all happy but there was no way this would ever happen.
So I’ll just vote for the Felon right? Don’t think so.
