You have to remember this is the guy who said...”Yeah, I’ll be Speaker...if you beg me.”

Why not just endorse the presumptive nominee, Mr. Speaker? You’re playing a dangerous game by not coming out with a full endorsement.

Ryan is not acting on just behalf of himself. He represents the GOP's corporate paymasters who call the shots.

I saw what happened to Romney in 2012 on immigration. He started out with a good policy, written largely by Kris Kobach. Once Romney became the presumptive nominee, he was called to a meeting on Long Island with the big donors. They told him to soften his stance on immigration and illegal aliens. He did.

Will Trump cave? He has softened his stance today on Muslims saying it was only a suggestion. Will he do the same thing on immigration? Will he pick up the CoC line that we need more skilled foreign workers? Will he modify his stance on the Wall and the deportation of illegal aliens? This is going to be a real test for Trump.

I don't think it is a good thing that Ryan is milking this for all it is worth. He opines that it is a good first step. This is the power position placing Trump as the supplicant trying to win favor with the GOPe. Not a good thing. The longer this goes on, the worse it is for Trump and more importantly, his stance on the issues.

Trump got to the dominant position by being the outsider taking on the GOPe. You've gotta dance with the one that brought you. Don't go wobbly on us now, Donald.

Trump has all the leverage. When is he going to use it?

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I know the feeling. I want to SEE something!!! ...NOW!!! “In patience we possess our souls.” I have to constantly school myself to calm down (praying helps!) and wait and see.

The truth is, we do not have any idea of what is going on behind the scenes. We know that Trump has a tremendous team doing research and talking to people. I think he has probably some very good advisors who do not want him to kowtow to the globalists (that is who the GOPe is.) Who knows what kind of “walking around money” they have access to? Who knows what kind of levers they have? As you said, Trump has all the leverage right now! He’s in a very good spot!

“Give me a place to stand and a lever long enough, and I shall move the world.” Archimedes

I join you in the hope that we may be soon seeing the results of that quote by Archimedes. We could be watching a giant at work.

>>That says everything except “I’m supporting Trump”.

The Master Persuader won and he’s giving Ryan some time to digest that crow. He wasn’t going to force Ryan and the other GOPe types to capitulate immediately. When Trump makes a deal, he likes for everyone to walk away feeling like they mostly got what they wanted. Just like buying a car.

Yes, Ryan is stalling. If there’s anyone who can tell when someone is stalling, it would be Trump. We’ll know how this “unification” is really going by whether or not Trump gives Ryan a label. Like “stallin’ Ryan”.

I thought the acknowledgement that Trump has brought millions of new voters into the Republican Party is significant. Trump controls those voters, and Ryan knows it.

Ryan matters less and less as the other members of the house fall into line.

Each house member that endorses Trump is another tick tock in Ryan’s fading leverage (if any)

However, most ever does not win a general and Trump knows this. The meeting is the beginning of bringing in all the voters that refused to support Trump to the table and bring them in.

When you are right you should always seek compromise. Got it.

He talked a lot about “core conservative principles”, but of course Ryan and his ilk only TALK about such principles, never actually acting upon them.

Screw the talk about conservative principles...what has the GOPee accomplished, compared to what they promised?

We still have Obamacare. We have NO debt limit. They gave Obama every $$$ he asked for. Still no functioning budget process.

Had they kept their promises, there would be no Trumpnado. Trump is a vote of No Confidence.

“...Really?...”

Trump has all of the leverage so I do think the GOPe Rino’s will work with Trump in the end.

If not, bye bye ... and they know it, at least those who aren’t in full out denial.

Another perspective would be to realize that the majority of the Republican electorate, who didn’t vote for Trump in the primaries, needs a cartharsis and that Ryan’s actions begin that process.

Is that some kind of Rino?

Do you want that "catharsis" to be losing another election?

The house members are lining up behind trump.

Ryan did not line up.

Maybe they can find someone actually willing to run for the post. The House membership gave us Ryan.
