The West Virginia Coal Association is putting its weight behind Donald Trump for president.
Members of the group, which represents companies in coal mining and related industries, voted Thursday to endorse the presumptive Republican nominee, days before West Virginias presidential primary.
Trump has said he will reverse the Democratic regulatory assault that has cost the coal industry more than 40 percent of our production and jobs since 2008, Bill Raney, the groups president, said in a statement.
In contrast, Hillary Clintons proposals essentially double-down on the job killing Obama policies, he said. West Virginia cant afford that and neither can the nation.
The coal group said it believes that with Trump in the White House and Republican Bill Cole as West Virginias governor, the state will be able to recover from President Obamas War on Coal.
Coal has taken center stage in the run-up to West Virginias primary. The state has been hit particularly hard in recent years by the coal industrys decline, which is due to a combination of factors like competition from natural gas and regulations.
Clinton is actively trying to shake off an anti-coal image, which she earned in part during a March event where she said she would put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business.
Trump, meanwhile, has pledged that West Virginias coal industry would thrive under his presidency, although he has identified few policy changes that would enable that.
Were going to get those miners back to work, he said at a recent event. The miners in West Virginia and Pennsylvania, which was so great to me last week, and Ohio and all over, theyre going to start to work again. Believe me. Youre going to be proud again to be miners.
Trump has pledged to review many of the regulations from Obamas Environmental Protection
Hillary Clinton may even lose the primary there next Tuesday.
did we take or lose last time?
WE NEED PA TOO!!
But what can President Trump do about the fact that natural gas prices are killing coal demand, the export market has collapsed because of the slowing of the Chinese economy, and the fact that it's cheaper to strip-mine coal out west than it is to deep mine it in the east?
We need coal as part of our energy strategy. We need the jobs.
Trump will set things right. Hopefully he’ll put America’s stalwart Sarah Palin to head up the EPA (unless it’s dissolved) or the Dept of Energy.
BTW, the railroads should be all for Trump. I see UNP has humdreds of cars sitting idle somewhere in Arizona due to very low load factors - coal is a big part of that. Those RR cars are not cheap.
On January 1, there were a lot of stories about old coal plants shutting down, due to stricter regulations taking effect. That was all EPA generated - not NG competition.
I believe this should help Trump in WV, OH and PA.
Good Job Trump!!! When Trump gets into office, he can work on China and get our oil back to the pipeline and our gas problems fixed...along with the wall, illegal immigration, lower taxes, better health care, common core buried, helping our Veterans and Wounded Warriors, getting jobs back to America for American workers, cleaning out the corrupted bowels of ‘sewer city’ and those that made it that way...
He’s got one busy first day, hope we can all keep up!!!
Never to early to start chalking up the slam dunk states for Trump.
West Virginia.
Shill gets an epic butt kick here. ;-)
Not one of WV’s 55 counties voted for Zer0 in 2012.
In the 2012 WV RAT primary, Keith Judd a convicted, and at the time imprisoned felon, got more than 42% against Zer0.
......and he’s out of prison now and on the ballot against the Beast.
China economy is slowing down to 7% annual growth.
India has slowed down to 5% annual growth. Those 2 countries have one third of the whole world’s people.
If that is their SLOWER growth rate, what will be their faster growth rates? Economies never operate at a fixed level. Problem with coal companies is not lack of growth rates. It is the prohibitive regulations imposed by environmental wacko crowd.
He can let them compete and sink or swim on their own without the heavy hand of Central government on their back.
Number 1. Trump start to de-regulate coal fire plants that Obama promised to kill off.
The mountain areas of eastern KY are suffering because of loss of mining jobs thanks to Obama.
We still have to make electricity and that major source is/has always been coal.
It will help in all the rust States from West VA right up to Michigan.
I know this isn’t the miner’s union, but I expect their rank and file to be solid Trump.
Trump did pick up the endorsement of the Border Patrol agents’ union, which is YUGE.
We may not have seen this strong of a union rank and file support for a Republican since Reagan.
Even the GOPe is throwing tantrums like they did against Reagan in 1980.
Dang, this could be a kick ass general election for the good guys (yes, that means us)!
A lot of those coal hoppers are quite "young," and not only were they not cheap, they aren't really useful for doing anything other than hauling coal- it isn't like they can just be "repurposed.".
BNSF alone has well over a thousand "good order" locomotives laid up in storage right now, and CSX has essentially made an entire subdivision of its network disappear. None of the railroads - or river barge lines - are escaping the consequences of the Democrat party's War on Coal, and the ripples are hitting everything from the equipment makers to the local convenience stores.
