Donald Trump: Ben Carson May Help Pick VP
US News ^ | 5/5/2016 | Joseph P. Williams

Having essentially locked up the Republican presidential nomination, Donald Trump says he's about to set up a committee to find a potential running mates -- and he's reportedly wants Dr. Ben Carson, his former nomination rival-turned-campaign surrogate, to help conduct the search...

Putting the retired neurosurgeon on the veep search committee, however, could generate some buzz among Trump supporters: a recent public-opinion survey found that voters want Trump to pick Carson as his running mate.

But Trump on Wednesday intimated that he may have someone else in mind: "I think probably I would like to go with somebody with great political experience," Trump told Good Morning America. Trump also told CNN that his former rival, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who dropped out of the race Wednesday, could also be on the list.

Trump did say during his Florida primary that he wanted Carson prominently involved in his administration. My guess is that Trump is putting Carson in this search situation to see how he performs as an executive. This for Carson is a job interview to see what Carson is made of!

Carson would make a great Surgeon General. His stance on the 2nd Amendment concerns me enough to not want him as VP.

All of the sudden with the Cruz and Kasich dropping out, the Trump train has taken on a totally different demeanor. Trump is taking charge in a big way and he looks like he knows exactly what he wants to accomplish and all the players are falling in line.

Ding! He is assessing his skills via this vetting / organizing ( and how he gets along with ) all that info so I see his total skill set to potentially run: HHS, Veterans, Surgeon General, or this Inner City Job / Potential Enterprise Zones in rough communites that he is hinting towards.

If I were president, Thomas Sowell would be one of my top advisers/speechwriters, and Walter Williams would be in charge of the economy. I wouldn’t pick them because they were black, but because they’d be the best choices. Carson should do a good job.

I predict that Trump will nominate a strong VP. He will delegate a lot of power to his VP. It will set a precedent IMHO.

His experience and ability to think on his feet would be a great asset.

Carson seemed kind of soft about that, but again it was not clear whether he was speaking with his doctor hat on or with his regulator hat on. The government need not ban everything that is unwise from some civilian point of view — to ask for that is asking for a nanny.

Sowell has opposed Trump consistently. One of the National Review 22.

He would be wasted as a Surgeon General (no offense to the position, and people have done great things in this position). I would like to see him oversee an overhaul of the mess that's been made of the medical system by the non-clinical policy wonks that have given us this poorly conceived disaster of a current system. Jonathan Gruber could serve donuts and coffee. The bulk of those involved should be practicing physicians, not academic ‘outcomes analysis’ MDs who generally do little clinical work and are also generally not very good physicians.

I agree.

The VP pick needs also to be thought of as presidential, as Trump will need a strong successor, one who will carry on his legacy

Mr. Williams may wish to proofread his opening sentence.

This for Carson is a job interview to see what Carson is made of!

I believe it was Dick Cheney who headed a VP search committee for Dubya, and ended up being chosen himself.

Let's hope that in this case history doesn't repeat himself. Carson would be an asset in the cabinet, but not as VP.

As for Newt, we already have one polarizing figure at the top of the ticket, we don't need another. We need a solid pick that is noncontroversial.

I would like to see the VP take a much more active role in the Senate as Pres of Senate. We need someone to kick a-s!

If anyone is familiar with “House of Cards” and the scene with Frank Underwood presiding over the Senate, that is the kind of kick-a*s I mean.

Yeah I agree — doctors who have seen it from the underside should be talking. Loudly.

Yes, a kind of audition. But unlike Miss America there could be a number of winners, each with his or her own “prize.”

Carson better think with his executive hat on and better be able to “put it away” as Trump says often meaning he better be able to score goals.
