Accused domestic abusers would have to surrender firearms within 24 hours under legislation that won final approval in the Senate on Monday afternoon and now heads to the governor for his expected signature.
The bill was approved 23-13 after a two-and-three-quarter hour debate, in which Republicans failed in three attempts to amend it. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, who proposed the legislation, indicated right after the vote that he supports the bill, which would require alleged domestic abusers in most cases, men to immediately give up their guns and ammunition if their partners seek restraining orders.
The goal is to protect women from the increased lethality at a critical point in a relationship: when they are trying to leave their abusers. About 14 domestic homicides occur annually in Connecticut, half of which are caused by guns.

“is domestic abuse a federal crime? therefore they are required to surrender their guns and ban from buying a gun”
Due process here would be probable cause, arrest, arraignment, trial, conviction, THEN you can talk about confiscating private property.
1 more reason to GTF out of the NE
Geesh the list is getting long
Insufficient due process...
Vote Trump
This has been going on in Marxachusetts for donkey’s years.
A nasty and/or vindictive wife can tell police, “He threatened me...” and the police search for and confiscate all weapons.
More to the point, the guns have to be stored somewhere, and if police don’t store them in their limited, small town headquarters buildings, then someone ele has to do it - at some cost.
If the husband can’t pay the cost, the guns are forfeit and sold. Say goodb-bye to your firearms, all because your wife felt like getting her jones by punishing you and getting a little payback for slights real or imagined with confiscation of your treasured possessions.
And all of it’s anti-constitutional nonsense on the part of anti-gunners, because they don’t take away knives, hammers, household chemicals or anything else such as that.
Without registration, who is going to collect?
That is exactly what this amounts to
So a mere allegation suspends your rights?
No Due Process? No presumption of innocence?
I think you’re right.
Hell, a CO of P right now gets your guns confiscated. All you need is a neighbor wanting to bust your balls and filing one on you. The filer doesn’t even need to go to court over it.
Police come to your house and its all over for your guns.
Guilty until proven innocent.
What kind of idiot thinks that guns “CAUSE” murder???
The same people must think cars cause drunk driving.
That,s how they like it.
The goal is to punish gun owners for owning guns whether they have done anything wrong or not.
The goal is to take guns from non-violent citizens and leave them in the hands of violent criminals.
That's two out of three they are taking. Not that silly documents like the Constitution matter to them.
while on the surface, this might seem like the right thing to do- it is now the courts and police who get to determine what ‘violent’ means- A man slaps his wife? Violent, a woman slaps a man? violent- a man shoves a woman? ‘violent’ a woman is on anti-depressents? ‘potential for violent behavior’ Someone calls is a ‘potential domestic abuse’ situation? ‘Violent incident’
With a 24 hour window, I would pile everything in the car and drive to an adjacent state (NOT Massachusetts!), where I would rent a storage unit.
At that point, the marriage is over. A threat to my weapons is completely unforgivable. Divorce is inevitable after a blow that low, and there can be no negotiation or forgiveness after crossing that line.
