TED CRUZ just screwed YOU out of your Social Security income...at least he did for me! I was getting widow benefits...but no more! Obama was happy to sign it!
[snip]Politicians describe Social Security as "the third rail," meaning that enacting any benefit cuts will kill them politically. But this is precisely what they voted to do under the Bipartisan Budget Bill of 2015. Spouses as well as divorced spouses (who were married for 10 or more years) who reached 62 by Jan. 2 can still collect just their spousal or divorced spousal benefit between 66 and 70 and then take their own retirement benefit at 70. (there are many other cuts as well!)
TED CRUZ VOTED FOR THIS Cruz (R-TX), Yea
Rand Paul voted against it. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), also voted Nay

Entirely different question and we both know the answer. It is redistributed.
So in other words, all folks who drop dead prior to filling, all the money which was forcefully confiscated from them for decades, does not go to their families? Wives? Sons etc?
That’s BS.
Are you really that dense? I mean really? Are you so bereft if gray matter that you are ignorant of survivors benefits? Please tell me that ain’t so.
I’m not involved in that system. I’m just asking. Btw, you seem angry.
And I have no idea a wife, working or not, who’s husband dropped dead before 62 could collect the full pop SS confiscated by government.
Not angry. Befuddled that somebody with a decent intellect is ignorant of SS. Survivors benefits are paid to the surviving spouse in perpetuity. Kids until they reach age 18 unless they are disabled. If the spouse dies the day after the first spouse and there are no kids then the money paid in gets redistributed. SS in a nutshell.
People currently on/near "file & suspend" are "unaffected", & "survivor benefits unaffected".
"There are no changes to survivor benefits. Widows and widowers can start collecting benefits anytime between age 60 and their full retirement age."
See:
Why would someone not even involved in a specific program know all the details about it?
Dude, every paycheck 15% of your money goes to SS. Does not make you the least bit curious where it’s going?
So it appears you answered my question, which is if a husband drops dead just prior to filing, his wife, working or not, is able to collected everything which was owed to her husband as well as any benefits due her.
Thanks.
Dude? Still using the 60s lingo?
Far out man.
I think you misunderstand — the government has little interest in making sure you get all your pay-ins back, and they are in fact trying not to, as if it were that way they would lose their giant slush-fund.
Secondly, Social Security has been absolutely fantastic in making the elderly dependent on the government, just like welfare does for the poor, and just like welfare there's a huge incentive to nurture and grow that dependency apart from all the corruption and control issues: if the agency were to adequately address the issues they were set up for, their utility would go down and the bureaucracies would be cut.
I overestimated your intellect. Apologies Snowflake.
Boy, you are agree. lol..
You ought to be fit to be tied by later this evening.
Can you get somebody to translate? I don’t speak Trumplish.
Thanks to all of you for your concern for me, but I will be fine. Many others will not be and will be old and on the government dole. I was surviving before I got ANY SS...I save, I’m frugal, I’m independent and thank GOD I won’t live much longer.
GO TRUMP!
You found a typo. yukyuk.
You’re angry I don’t know all the details regarding the SSA, even though I am not involved in it. Very odd.
Hey see you at the big Trump speech tonight after the big win!
And cheer up.

The social security website tells you that the payouts take into consideration life expectancy. The average beneficiary will not benefit from delaying payments since, on average, their increased benefits will be offset by the amount of time they receive the benefits.
If you take the benefits at age 65 as opposed to waiting until age 70, you will be ahead of the game unless you live beyond age 84.
The vanity post is nonsense. Your mother’s widow’s benefit is safe.
There were strategies that allowed married couples to get more SS money by using loopholes.
The legislation closed those loopholes. It was a good thing, one small step in trying to keep SS alive.
That’s all. Did not affect widows’ benefits.
I know because I am one.
Yes, I have done the math. My wife will outlive me by a good many years. A gene thing. So at 65 ,I have no intentions of retiring until she can max out my benefit which will be higher than hers based on her earnings. Unless my back craps the bed for good. :-)
I don’t think she would qualify for survivor’s benefits unless she was rearing a minor child. However, she would be eligible to get widow’s benefits when she reaches full retirement age (or reduced benefits as early as 62), and it would be her deceased husband’s whole benefit, not just half of it.
She can draw half if he’s still living and drawing his whole amount.
If he dies and she’s under 62, she’ll just have to find a job for a few years.
