GOP women push Trump on VP pick
The Hill ^ | 4/30/16 | Christina Marcos

Female Republican lawmakers are making the case for Donald Trump to choose a woman as his running mate.

Picking a female vice presidential candidate could help mitigate the damage Trump caused with women voters in the primary, they say, as well as counter Hillary Clinton if she is the Democratic nominee.

Rep. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) offered the idea, somewhat unprompted, at a Capitol Hill event hosted by the Heritage Foundation this week.

When a reporter asked a panel of conservative House Republicans who Trump should choose as his running mate, most lawmakers demurred. But Lummis, the only woman on the dais, didn’t hold back.

“I would suggest a woman, because some of the remarks he has made about women are not going to help him appeal to some of the 53 percent of the voting populace that are women,” Lummis said.

Lummis said Trump would be well served by a running mate with more “discipline” to balance his unpredictability. That would be a better strategy than going the traditional route of choosing a running mate who represents a swing state, she said.

I hate identity politics.

As a woman I do too. But it's what makes D.C. tick, regardless of party.

Jeff Sessions seems to me to be the logical pick if Trump is still thinking the way he was earlier on.

I'm not sure Sessions would want to give up a Senate seat for the vice-presidency, especially since he'd be 70 when sworn in. He could help Trump on the Hill.

Trump doesn’t need a woman as his VP ... in fact, I personally think it would be a sign of PC pandering if he chose one.

The gender of his vice-president is not going to help him or change who he is so trying to push a woman on him is counter productive.

Republicans / Conservatives engage in identity politics just as much as the Left, while decrying it

“GOP Women” are at the root of most of what’s wrong with the party IMHO.

You point to abortion as justification for your statement. I'll go further. In aggregate, women support bigger, more powerful government and PC feel-good policy making. The country more and more is being driven by women, either directly or indirectly via political pandering to them. And the results are gays everywhere, no more ladies rooms, and massive increases in social program spending.

Today as I was walking through a lobby they had CNN on and the sound was down but the banner at the bottom said "GOP Women respond to Trump's comments on Hillary" and I thought 'oh brother, here we go. You can't even criticize female politicians on policy or blatant corruption without people rushing to find other women to condemn you as a sexist meanie. And they'll find plenty to do it, too.' And this is how they think they'll beat Trump. Make women think he's a meanie. They won't, says conventional wisdom, vote for a meanie. They managed to make wimpy Mitt Romney look like a big old heartless meanie so they are drooling at the chance to demonize Trump. He's in for some rough seas with this crowd.

Sigh. If Sarah Palin had just said no to McCain she would now be a retired, highly successful two-term governor. She would either be a top contender for the Presidential nomination itself or, barring that, on top of the Veep short list. But now, well, no. Won’t happen. A pity.

I don’t think Sarah wants it. She wants to be an activist. I understand that and respect it.

The women on my list who would help Trump are (in no order):

Brewer, Rice, Martinez, Blackburn, Parker, Haley, Ingraham, Hasselbeck, Cheney, Brown, Ayotte, Chao, Black

They aren’t all conservatives, in my opinion, but they would all be worth doing background analysis on in terms of WINNING in the fall.

Trump doesn't need a woman card for VP. The country will get on just fine without a female VP.

Look at his family....Look at his daughter.

[Interested in hearing what is thought of Gov. Fallin of OK as a potential running mate?

I heard her name floated too.

A great blend of congressional and gubernatorial executive experience, paired with private sector work. Not to mention how prosperous OK is.

Only potential con is a divorce as a result of alleged infidelity on her part. Don’t know if that would play well with the electorate once the Dems exploit it.

The premise is wrong. Mr. Trump doesn’t have a problem with women, unless those women are anti-American feminazi’s.

I suspect many of these Republican ‘women’ are of the same mindset as most of the Republican ‘men’, namely, RINO’s.

At this juncture, anyone who is stupid enough to put political correctness above saving this country can stick it.

I doubt it will be Martinez. She seems content being a GOPe
