De Blasio Team Violated Campaign Finance Laws, Report Says
New York Times ^ | April 22, 2016 | WILLIAM NEUMAN and JESSE McKINLEY

Posted on 04/23/2016 3:23:35 AM PDT by reaganaut1

An investigation by the New York State Board of Elections found evidence of flagrant violations of campaign finance law by a team of people that Mayor Bill de Blasio created to raise money for Democrats running for the State Senate in 2014, according to a confidential board report.

The board sent the report to Cyrus R. Vance Jr., the Manhattan district attorney, three months ago, prompting a criminal investigation into the fund-raising.

The mayor’s Senate effort, which failed in its goal to wrest the legislative body from Republican control, has proved damaging to him in multiple ways. Democrats remained in the minority in the Senate; the mayor’s relationship with Senate Republicans was severely strained, hurting his ability to win support in Albany for his agenda; and now it has led to one of several investigations that are tarnishing his administration.

The investigation by the state board was reported on Friday by The Daily News.

The board’s investigation, and the subsequent continuing inquiry by Manhattan prosecutors, is looking at whether there was an effort to illegally circumvent limits on campaign contributions to individual candidates by directing money instead through Democratic Party county committees and a statewide party campaign committee.

The county and statewide committees can receive contributions of up to $102,300, which is much greater than the general election limit on contributions to candidates’ campaigns, $11,000 per donor.

“The evidence demonstrates that the de Blasio team coordinated its fund-raising activities” with the campaigns of several candidates and routed contributions to them through the county and statewide committees “in order to evade contribution limits and to disguise the true names of the contributors,” according to the report.

I don't support campaign finance restrictions, which protect incumbents. But if we are going to have them, powerful Democrats should be playing by the same rules.

I loathe de Blasio, but the residents of NYC deserve him.

“I loathe de Blasio, but the residents of NYC deserve him.”

They also support his illegal actions as well after all
New York is the capital of the Northeastern Communist Block USA. As a country we would be better of without them.

you’re right. Jews deserve to be assaulted in Crown Heights.

Hard working Italians and Irish that voted republican deserve to fear for themselves on subways and buses in the city.

Old women deserve to be assaulted and maybe even killed.

I would call you a jerk, but that would be an insult to jerks.

“what does Houston deserve for its new beautiful Islamic library/cultural center?”

Eventually it would have happened anyway especially with all
the funding coming out of Yew York for it.

“hypocrite”

No need in being an ass about it. Chump.

“NYC is a small example of what is happening with OUR COUNTRY.”

Well of course. It is front line of the communist overthrow of
the United States.
Why? Because that’s where most of the fools are.

It turns out that his staunch campaign against the Horse Drawn Carriages in NYC was a graft ploy. A total crook.

I’m a conservative/libertarian living in Staten Island. No one deserves de Blasio. The general election against the more qualified, but lackluster, republican Lhota had a 23% turn out.

Collective guilt is not the right way to look at this. I had nothing to do with getting this guy elected.

Again, no one in NYC deserved to be saddled with a de Blasio — or a Gov. Cuomo, for that matter. But, that’s democrat machine politics in NYC.

de Blasio is the direct result of the total collapse of the Republican Party in New York City. The scumbags ran away.

The bastards under cut a Trump like supermarket chain owner and gave us a guy who honestly - really - no bull sh^t ran to the frickin LEFT of a Communist. NYC’s Republicans and Reagan Democrats are furious at this betrayal!
This is why Trump will bring out virtually every living Republican in NYC and hold Clinton under 58 in the City which will be the springboard for his close but decisive statewide victory.
Whether they fit the description of a Republican elsewhere or not, NYC Republicans kept Democrats out of the mayors seat for 24 years - which is longer than most big cities in America.

Final thought we hear so much about how de Blasio won with 70% and that is true but what is rarely if ever mentioned is that the 70% was of a record low 27% turnout. I don’t know many people who voted on that line.

Turn-out was really that low? When 77% or the electorate vote "whatever" by not showing up, it sounds like collective guilt is exactly the way to look at this when "whatever" gets elected.

There is no place for Republicans in NYC anymore; they’ve been driven out by the same forces driving them out of every socialist “utopia”: High taxes to pay for the hordes of immigrants (including illegals) and the Welfarian caste, combined with gibsmedats running amuck. Just saw a news story yesterday in NYC where 3 primates beat and robbed someone with a ROCK; how primitive (but direct)...
