The Juneau County Sheriff says that most of the herd is in the Union Center area, according to the Messenger of Juneau County.
The herd belongs to an Amish farmer who is working on rounding up the animals.
Officials say they are not sure how long it will take to round them all up.
JUNEAU COUNTY (WKOW) -- A herd of 120 buffalo escaped from its enclosure in southern Juneau County Thursday night.
The Juneau County Sheriff's Office said it has created dangerous travel conditions in the Union Center, Elroy and Wonewoc. Officials advised against approaching or disturbing the buffalo, on foot or in cars, due to their stampeding behavior.
Officials are working to contain and capture the buffalo, but say they likely won't be able to do so until the morning.

I grew up in Oklahoma where there were bison herds in state parks. When they invaded the picnic area you grabbed your kids and got in the cars to wait out the invasion. Eratic beasts. Hurt and killed people. NOT Bessie the cow.
My wife and sons were in a car that hit a cow at dusk in a free range area. Totaled the car, and sent them to a hospital. Thankfully, their injuries weren't serious.
That's a big reason why I hate driving at night. Plus, I'm older now, and recognize my reflexes aren't what they used to be.
"It's not Megan either."
lol
You can’t skate in a buffalo herd.
Consistent with his political leanings. Naive, but earnest.
But you can be happy if you’ve a mind to!
Buffalo are nothing compared to the deadly Jackalope.
I’ve seen jackalopes charge a railroad engine and knock it off the tracks.
“Yep that would work. Its bad enough hitting a cow on the road. A big bison bull would be a real thrill.”
It’s good though that it’s not happening in Idaho, because up there the local sheriff’s deputies declare “open season” on the rancher and kill him when he tries to intervene and put down a bull!
where the Deer and the Antelope play...
Ho', homo deranged...
If you mix the two together...you need Hazmat on speed dial...for the next day...
Jedi.
lol
Great Beans Boss...
I have family in that area. They’ve been posting about this for a few hours already on Facebook.
Hope everybody stays clear! Those are not tame animals!!!
How do you retrieve them, particularly an Amish who I presume isn’t using motorized vehicles.
2,000 pounds of muscle and attitude, with horns on it. Times 120.
“Won’t hurt anything”, riiiight.
We had an even ten of buffalo escape a farm here. Another vet used the acceptable tranquilizer listed in the textbooks to capture them but the tranquilizer killed every one of them. I was reared just South of Lawton, Oklahoma, and was familiar with them and didn’t wish any part of the rodeo. I have worked with them in the past and even the best cattle chute is inadequate for these beasts.
“Bison Bill” isn’t as catchy
We had a friend in Whitewater Wisconsin. She liked to bike. She was bicycling one day and she passed two other bikers who yelled at her “Look out for the Buffalo!”
“I was hurt!” she said
“I really am not overweight and look pretty slender.”
She continued on, and came up over the next hill and was confronted by a buffalo (or bison to satisfy picky people) staring at her from the middle of the county road.
She got off the bike and stood there for about 1/2 a minute when a guy on a offroad vehical came up and drove the beast back up the road and into a nearby field.
