Chairman of the Joint Chiefs to troops: Stay out of politics
cnn ^ | 4/11/16 | Barbara Starr

(CNN)Growing concern that top U.S. military leaders are increasingly being asked to comment on proposals by presidential candidates has led the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to draft a letter to all troops with one message: Stay out of politics. Gen. Joseph Dunford is expected to issue a note to all military forces as soon as this week.

Dunford will "remind the troops of the need to remain apolitical in order to sustain Americans' trust and confidence in them," said the chairman's spokesman, Capt. Gregory Hicks. The U.S. military has a longstanding tradition of remaining out of politics so that commanders are free to give any president their best military advice without it being seen as part of a political agenda. Hicks noted that the issue often comes up during the presidential campaign season. Troops are reminded not to appear in uniform at political events, for example. But this year, the issue has grown more public -- and Dunford's letter is aimed at senior commanders as well as the troops -- because of the national security debate on the campaign trail.

It’s about the only way those officers make Colonel or Brig. General these days. Political butt-kissing...

Most of the higher ups sold their souls long ago, the rest have been “retired” or removed.

On the contrary, we need a good military coup.

If Dunford had any balls, he’s send a couple of APC’s over to the White Hut and take the occupants into custody for Treason

Well then he would be a traitor because he has no Constitutional authority to do so.

If you are going to be in the military you leave your political views at home as politics and a ready force don’t mix. The USSR used to have political officers in almost every unit..that didn’t work out very well....

It is illegal for any member of the armed forces to participate in a political campaign. There are very strict limits on what members of the military may do. It is standard policy for commands to send out a reminder about the law. These reminders go out before every election.

We can vote. We cannot advocate for a specific candidate. We cannot leave the service and then use our past military affiliation to run for office and solicit votes. We can run—we just can’t feature a military past to convince people to vote for us.

They have no say whatsoever as long as the service members do it legally and of base!

remind the troops of the need to remain apolitical in order to sustain Americans' trust and confidence in them.

Translation: You WILL vote for the Hildebeast, or else.

I’ll read the guy’s comments, but this sort of sounds like he’s saying people in the military shouldn’t vote, and they definitely shouldn’t exercise the very amendment they swore a blood oath to defend.

No, he's not saying that (though there are senior leaders who believe that). He's talking about the folks who, in uniform, publicly comment on political happenings. They definitely shouldn't be doing that. Takes individuals like this NCO here:

That's unacceptable behavior, and the CJCS is right to remind folks to keep that nonsense down.

You are not correct. Colonels make Brigadier General by competence with allowance for diversity and multicultural consideration. But, to move up from one-star to two-star, and especially to three-star you must be willing to play ball with the politician worms. Every three and four stars have signed the corrupt bargain.

“Well then he would be a traitor because he has no Constitutional authority to do so.”

Well, not having “constitutional authority” hasn’t stopped Obama! I guess you and I have a different definition of “traitor!” We are as close today to cease being a viable country as we ever have in all of my 75 years. The World Wars were not as likely to have cost us our soverignty as has having Obama as president. Aside from the money he’s pi$$ed away, he’s decreased out individual freedoms drastically.

Throwing out the Constitution to combat throwing out the Constitution is not an answer.

“Throwing out the Constitution to combat throwing out the Constitution is not an answer.”

Perhaps, but it could also be shown that “throwing out the Constitution” to save the Constitution is the answer. When you have a corrupt Legislative and Judiciary branches, there have to be ways to take corrective action.

Dunford wants obedient drones.

Remember how Bush had HIS JCC tell troops to shut up?

Neither do I.

As far as I am concerned that is a fairly meaningless action. The CJCS has NO command authority. He is either speaking for the National Command Authority ((NCA) President and/or SECDEF), or he is relaying information to the NCA from the combatant commanders.

Just look at his title, literally, it is Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff. The key word being “Staff” He is not a commander, just the highest ranking staff puke around.

So what he should be doing is sending out a “For the Commander” letter.

Hicksey Babay!

Obama shout out to an Obama cut out.

The military lately seems to make sure that absentee ballots form overseas are rarely counted.
