SC bill would bar requiring transgender choice of bathrooms

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina senator wants to bar local governments from requiring businesses to let transgender people use the bathroom of their choice, saying he's taking a "stand for decency and common sense."

The bill introduced Wednesday by Sen. Lee Bright would also require multistall bathrooms on public property to be designated and used "based on biological sex." It specifically includes student bathrooms, locker rooms and shower rooms in public schools.

How private businesses handle their bathrooms should be up to the owners, not government, he said.

He knows of no city in South Carolina where that's an issue, but he supports a North Carolina law that prohibits local communities from enacting anti-discrimination ordinances and requires transgender people to use public bathrooms that match their sex at birth.

Who would have ever thought it would come to the point where we would need a law to keep men out of the little girls’ bathroom?

Lee Bright BUMP!!

It's completely nuts to let way less than 3% of the population dictate to the rest of us. Common sense and decency. YES!

Hey!, I know! Maybe we can initiate a federal bathroom pass program! Yeah... THAT’S IT!

Each person will receive a federal bathroom pass access card attached by chain links to a sawed off mop handle wrapped in duct tape.

Yeah! All you have to do is go on the Obamacare website and check off the new box declaring whether you feel like a man or a woman...

None of these laws are enforceable, unless they are willing to have a police officer at the entrance to all bathrooms checking ID cards, and directing the holder to the room designated for his/her sex.
All such laws invite unlawful arrest and/or litigation.
Assault is already a crime. How about making laws about actions?

Will be interesting to see who in the S.C. State Assembly opposes this bill.

I’d go for a bill granting immunity for a father who beats the snot out of a male following his little girl into the womens’ room.

Yes, but ‘men’ here are protesting:

Men walk mile in high heels to draw attention to sexual assault

Kelly White Daily Southtown CHICAGO

Brandon Swanson usually wears loafers when he works as assistant director of alumni and parent relations at Saint Xavier University.

But last week, the 22-year-old Oak Lawn man carefully strutted a mile in red high heels around the campus at 3700 W. 103rd St. in Chicago.

Swanson joined more than 30 other men for the second annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes march, an event to draw attention to Sexual Assault Awareness month.

“This is a very fun, yet impactful event,” Swanson said. “The event is aimed at raising awareness about rape, sexual assault, and gender violence. This is something I think is extremely important. Too much of this violence goes on every day and there are people who are affected by this horrible injustice every day. And unfortunately, many women are too afraid to speak up. We want them all to know that they have a support system and to let them know they have someone to turn to.”

Anna Goldman, the event’s coordinator and a senior psychology major at the school, said she wanted the march to help the campus highlight gender relations and sexual violence against women.

“The goal of this event is to educate men and women about the prevalence of sexual violence on college campuses,” said Goldman, 22, of Eagan, Minn. “While we asked men to walk in high-heeled shoes to achieve the effect of literally putting themselves in women’s shoes, all were invited to walk and to join the conversation about sexual assault and violence. Not many people can digest difficult topics of discussion, but with Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, it allows for people to find a community, in a playful manner, to talk about the effects and solutions of sexualized violence against women.”

Some shoes came from donations and the Saint Xavier Council. Goldman said she also bought some shoes from a shoe store on Amazon that sells red high-heels that are intended for wide-set and large feet.

And not every trans woman looks like John Lithgow in World According to Garp. There's trannies these days with full beards who'd likely get their asses kicked if they were caught using the bathroom in accordance to the sex on their driver's license.

My boss at a small home healthcare company always worried about how the government could cost him thousands of dollars at any time by forcing him to upgrade his bathroom for wheelchair access. Small business lives in fear of such regulations. Government properties like schools could not care less.

Good for Sen. Bright in putting the bill forward.

With any luck it will reach her desk and she can decide whether she cares more for PayPal, Apple, Andrew the Pius and the rest, OR her own good citizenry.

They should change the argument to a “limited resources” argument

Despite what libtards may think, government money IS LIMITED and you have to make bathrooms to accommodate 99.9% of the population - not the freaks who make up less than 1% who don’t know what sex they are.

Also the 99% of the public who demand their daughters not be exposed to men in public restrooms.

I think these laws are enforceable. I also think the action of a man intentionally entering a women’s facility be it locker room or rest room is action enough for enforcement. You don’t need a cop at every restroom just like you don’t need a cop at every stop sign catching people running through it. You selectively enforce. And it’s not going to take the gender police to alert the authorities on who’s who. The radicals will proudly stand up and say what they are as they provoke and attempt to intimidate society. Defining deviancy down is not the answer.

...every trans woman...

I'm always confused by this. Is the "trans woman" the one with the chopitoffame, or the one with the addadicktome?

Nikki Haley will never sign it, too “moderate” and close to their likely gay US Senator, Lindsey Graham.
