Ted Cruz leads Donald Trump in the Republican nomination contest in Wisconsin, according to a Fox Business Network Poll released Thursday.
Cruz garners 42 percent among Wisconsin likely GOP primary voters, while Trump receives 32 percent. John Kasich comes in third with 19 percent.
Among just those who say they will definitely vote, Cruzs lead over Trump widens to 46-33 percent, and Kasich gets 16 percent.
There is a big gender gap. Women back Cruz over Trump by a 19-point margin (46-27 percent). The two candidates are much closer among men: Cruz gets 40 percent to Trumps 35 percent.
Cruzs advantage over the real estate mogul also comes from self-described very conservative voters, who give him a 36-point lead (61 percent Cruz vs. 25 percent Trump).
White evangelical Christians voting in the GOP primary prefer Cruz over Trump by 49-28 percent. Trump has beaten Cruz among this key voting bloc in more than 10 contests so far, according to the Fox News exit poll.
Cruz is ahead of Trump among those with a college degree (42-30 percent) as well as those without a degree (44-34 percent).
Independents can vote in Wisconsins open primary -- and are more inclined to back Trump (37 percent) than Cruz (26 percent) or Kasich (26 percent).
Meanwhile, independents are equally likely to opt to vote in the Republican primary (50 percent) as the Democratic primary (50 percent).
The Wisconsin primary is April 5. Even so, more than one in five likely GOP primary voters say they might change their mind over the next few days (22 percent). That includes 40 percent of Kasich supporters, 18 percent of Cruz supporters, and 15 percent of Trump supporters.
The ambivalence of Kasich supporters is better news for Cruz than Trump, as the Ohio governors backers are more than twice as likely to name Cruz as their second choice candidate.
Dissatisfaction with the current slate of candidates is clear.
Many wish there were another name on the ballot. If Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker were still in the race, 44 percent of GOP primary voters say they would vote for him. That puts him more than 20 points ahead of the pack: Trump gets 21 percent, Cruz 17 percent and Kasich 12 percent.
In that hypothetical scenario, 59 percent of Cruzs supporters and 31 percent of Trumps, defect to Walker.
Walker, one of the first GOP heavyweights to drop out of the race, endorsed Cruz Tuesday.
I have been praying that America wakes up.
Usually it is best to just type in the first few words of the article headline, that is what I do and as long as no one has altered the headline, the results are 100%.
Trump and Cruz should control the vast majority of delegates that will set the rules for who can be nominated on the floor. If they just keep Rule 40(b) in place, only Trump and Cruz can be nominated.
Wow.. really? Hey speaking of rule 40, I have some waterfront property for sale.. I mean it will be waterfront anyway, after it rains for 40 days and 40 nights..
I've seen this nonsense posted before every primary.
Trump is the one who has to win. If he doesn't get to 1237 before the convention he will not be the nominee. Trump's biggest problem now is closed primaries and primaries that allocate delegates by district. He has a tough path to 1237.
I don't think Sen. Cruz can get to 1237 before the convention, but he is the more likely nominee if the vote goes to a 2nd ballot.
The GOP's convention rules are based on a modified version of the same rules used to run the House of Representatives. (In fact, traditionally the speaker of the House runs the convention, as will be the case this year.) Just as in every new session of the House, the first order of business at a GOP convention, after the call to order, is to pass a rules package. Spicer compared it to a condo board or neighborhood association meeting, where people need to know the process and how the meeting will run before they start voting on new business.http://www.usnews.com/news/the-report/articles/2016-03-25/the-first-rule-of-the-republican-national-convention-there-arent-any-rules-yet
Ted Cruz will not be the nominee.
Son, AMERICANS HAVE AWAKENED...LISTEN TO US ROAR IN NOVEMBER.
enough said, by the way, are you related to Drews Mom? just wondering...
Two delegates from each state will serve on the Rules Committee and set the requirement.
Then hillary wins the general.
Trump has no way to win the general. His negatives are so great and his inability to think before speaking will make it impossible for him to undo his terrible numbers with women and conservatives. Sen. Cruz is experienced and smart enough not to be manipulated by the media into saying stupid things, or insulting groups he will need as allies in order to win.
Do Trump's statements about not needing forgiveness and then his attacks against other candidate's faith not concern you?
Trump may be a quick learner, but it is late in the game to try and build an organization. So far he's had a helpful media, looking to get great ratings, but he hasn't organized a strong ground game. That's why Cruz ended up doing well in LA. He was organized and knew the rules.
Again, we have to wait on the actual election. Might as well turn off the TV until then. It is very like pre-game stuff where the experts tell us what they do not know.
Nah, you saw in the earlier thread today were I posted, "just being witty" - same applies here.
Yes, exactly.
And Bill is still crawlin' with 'em.
If so, Quell will take care of it.
I was encouraged by the PPP poll that found it a dead heat. We’ll likely get more polls over the weekend. I’m not ready to write this off for Trump yet. But even if Cruz wins (thanks to all the loudmouth talk radio hosts in WI and Walker being weak Walker) this doesn’t change the trajectory of things. New York is the next primary and Cruz could come in third there.
There’s a good reason why he’s called Lyin’ Ted - his whole campaign is a lie. He has no realistic chance of winning the nomination, Wisconsin or no Wisconsin. He’s over with and if he had more decency he would drop out. Let’s hope and pray that Kasich and Trump pick up support over the weekend.
His supporters should be proud to walk side by side with McCain, Jeb, Lindsey and Romney.
Hope Cruz wins WI by enough margin to scoop up the vast majority of delegates.
Trump’s basic message of Borders/Jobs is a good one. Unfortunately, no one has heard it lately, because the candidate is so lacking in skills, knowledge and judgement that all we’ve heard about for weeks is his latest screw up(s). The media and Hillary would own him during general.
