GOP frontrunner Donald Trump said the top three functions of the United States government are security, healthcare, and education.

During CNN’s town hall in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Tuesday night, an audience member asked Trump, “What are the top three functions of the United States government?”

“Security for our nation,” Trump responded. “I would also say healthcare… [and] education.”

“The top three are security, security, security,” Trump stressed, saying America needs security “so we can continue to exist as a country.”

“Thousands and thousands of people are infiltrating our country,” the real estate mogul explained. “We don’t know who they are.”

On top of security, Trump added, “Healthcare, education would be probably three that would be top.”

“Our military has been eaten away,” Trump explained.

He also added that “Housing [and] providing great neighborhoods” is a function of the government.

The government has no role in education or healthcare.

Its intrusion into both is why they’ve declined in quality like a lead balloon.

Ok, so I’ll admit he did blow the question. He still got at least ONE answer right, however, and it’s a big one. Without it, the rest of it is pretty much null and void anyway.

We currently have a president who absolutely FAILS at that one task ...and we’re all going to pay the price, and we HAVE paid the price over the years for many former presidents who also did not take the issue seriously.

As long as I live in a land free from fear of constant attack, I can take care of the rest.

The government has no role in education or healthcare.

The federal government isn't supposed to, but s long as Wickard v Filburn stands, those and anything else Congress can speciously "find to have a substantial effect on interstate commerce", they will do whatever they damn please with.

The “United States Government” means three (3) sectors.....Federal, State & Local!!! Yes...fool......The State & Local Governments certaonly do have a role in both education & healthcare. End of story....moron!!!

Eloquent, absolutely not, but like the modern translation of the KJV Bible, somebody has to dumb it down for the maleducated. Had he quoted the preamble his negatives would have shot through the roof with the millennials who have never seen the constitution applied to anything.
Depending on the long answer, his positions appear very much in line with establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity. The devil is in the details...

In these times, the first three jobs of the federal government are security. There's not that much that's preventing the US to become the next country that's reduced to rubble.

Health care and education? The federal gov does have an important role, in protecting our personal control over our minds and bodies. If those rights aren't restored, they're gone for good.

At least you didn’t parse the quote. We do live in a maleducated society. Where our core values are up for grabs and populists not purists are far more likely to have a voice that is heard.

Healthcare and Education.... NO that is for the states and are not anywhere near something called a right.... That is what was the left has pushed to the brainwashed masses.

He is right on national security. Education is the responsibility of local governments ( ie school boards) and the government really should have no role in health care. I am guessing his strategy is to continue to give the conservatives their red meat ( national security) and to try to appear centrist on education and health care so he can do well in the general election.

I cannot picture my guy Cruz going at it with a blunt instrument like Trump would. Not that Trump would succeed but it’s come to this. My earlier suggestion to move the capitol would be something only Trump could have the gonads to blurt out. Cruz for VP(dream ticket) with the plan for Cruz to get kicked upstairs to SCOTUS. Either that or Trump does it all in one term.
