Federal judge admonished Shawna Cox she's not to speak publicly about Oregon standoff case

A federal judge Tuesday agreed to lift Shawna Cox's home detention and replace it with a curfew, but cautioned the 59-year-old defendant in the armed takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge not to make public comments about the pending case.

"She's not going to make any public comment, at all, period, or she could sit in jail," U.S. District Judge Robert E. Jones ordered.

Cox has been out of custody since her Jan. 29 release and listened to Tuesday's hearing via speaker phone from her home in Kanab, Utah.

The judge told Cox she must refrain from making any comments by phone or social media about her case "or any future protest movements."

Tiffany Harris, Cox's lawyer, objected to the scope of the order, but said her client would abide......

Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig Gabirel said Tuesday that Cox 'has incited people to travel to Montana to help in harboring" co-defendant Jake Ryan, who has not yet been arrested.

Cox also went on a You Tube video on March 23 for more than and hour talking about the pending case and who she believed to be a government informant, Gabriel said.

Harris said her client is a 59-year-old grandmother who uses Facebook 'to communicate with the world.'

Judge Jones said he didn't want Cox speaking by phone or on her Facebook account or any social media about the case or other protests.

"You understand that Ms. Cox?" the judge asked.

"I do", she replied.

"And, you agree to that?" Jones asked.

"I do", Cox said.........

The feds shutting up Shawna Cox and still trying to arrest Jake Ryan, who dug a latrine at the protest on Jan. 26th.

Quite a story there with Ryan's family opposing his arrest and calls by Gavin Seim and others for the sheriff in Ryan's county in Montana to do his job and protect the wanted man.

The sheriff trying to tamp down any protest and speaking of 'trying' to 'resolve things peacefully' just like old Sheriff Ward in Harney County back in January.

Ask LaVoy Finicum how that worked out?/sarc.

Is this the United States of America anymore?

No, it's not.

Look at the purely and LITERALLY politically-motivated criminal prosecution of Trump's campaign manager on (pun) 'Trumped-up' charges while Hillary and Bill both skated on impeachable offenses including perjury and/or subornation of perjury, and mishandling of classified material at the Special Compartmented Access level.

That *is* the stuff of dictatorships, of banana republics.

My guess is almost nobody on this thread will notice that she got her home detention lifted.

The feds shutting up Shawna Cox ...

...

Beats home detention which she was on, or worse, like sitting in jail.

The question might be, what’s worse, losing your freedom of assembly or free speech? Either way you have been muzzled, and your rights have been violated by a Federal Judge, and that is a felony offense under USC.

It is unfortunate the judge feels as he does, what is his fear or his worry? He along with his cohorts in judgement, have a 90 plus percentage conviction rate. Which spells “what, me worry”. I don’t get it. Why not just dump the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and we can get on with tyranny.

“My guess is almost nobody on this thread will notice that she got her home detention lifted.”

“Don’t exercise your right to free speech or tell anyone what really happened. It messes with our narrative. We’ll let you have your “freedom” as long as your give up the parts we tell you to.”

This all sounds familiar to me. If these bogus charges are what our justice system calls “the law”, then we should have to build several new facilities to handle the influx of protesters that we’ve observed doing much worse things before our very eyes on national news. Perhaps you don’t remember America when it actually was America. This ain’t it.

The judge needs to read up on something called the “1st Amendment”, plus he’s just making the Oregon protestors point for them. Not too bright....

U.S. District Judge Robert E. Jones ordered to be put on the list of those who have stepped over the line in the government's oppression of the people. I don't have a dog in the fight over the grazing of Federal land, but this stuff is beginning to cross the line into totalitarian rule (i.e. shooting Finicum in the back, prosecuting anyone and everyone who was at the scene to try and intimidate everyone. Hey Feds, you're just garnering more support for those folks. Keep it up. You gonna arrest us all?

RE:”My guess is almost nobody on this thread will notice that she got her home detention lifted.”

That plus she agreed to not make anymore public statements to get that.

Ummm, you just nullified the 1st part of your statement w/ your 2nd.

Grazing on ‘Fed. land’ (unless it’s a fort, postal road or the such) already crosses into totalitarian rule.

Since she can’t speak publicly, she should do so privately, a lot, to a video camera, dozens and dozens of recordings that are then carried to individuals outside of this judge’s jurisdiction.

When and if the judge or prosecutor plays fast and loose with the rules, she should document on video every bit of it, timing and dating when it happened. This is typically called a “memorandum for record”, and it can pack a big punch in an appeal.

This is because it forces cheaters to try and defend their cheats by legitimizing them, basically a “cover up”, and it is far more likely they will be tripped up by this than if they control the process and the information about it.

Such cockroaches really hate having light shined on their activities.

...

If that’s the case you should call the FBI and report the crime.

Chuckle. They would not have the slightest interest seeing as they were present for the murder of Lavoy and more than likely set the stage using their rules that did not prevent Lavoy from being shot in the back by a gang of gun crazy LE’s intent on exactly who knows what, other than insuring they would get home for dinner. Just make sure you learn the lesson. Don’t think Federal LE or judges are into preservation of individual rights enumerated in the Constitution.
