Rush Limbaugh’s blessing of Trump is killing conservatism
Washington Post ^ | 3/28/2016 | Michael Gerson

Posted on 03/28/2016 10:24:42 PM PDT by GilGil

If Donald Trump becomes the Republican nominee, one of the main reasons will be that many in the conservative movement found him acceptable. And one of the main reasons that many conservatives are finding Trump acceptable is that the most influential political talk radio host in history, Rush Limbaugh, has provided his blessing.

Not his endorsement. Limbaugh takes pains to preserve neutrality between Trump and Ted Cruz, whom he describes as the obvious choice “if conservatism is the dominating factor in how you vote.”

But Limbaugh has also consistently defended Trump as a legitimate choice for those whose dominating factor is the humiliation of “the establishment.”

The trouble is that it has been going the other way since 1912, and there is hardly an important politician or CEO who wants to turn this thing around. Look at the way the big boys ganged up on poor Dealy just to prove that they are in charge of the government of this country.

Michael Gerson and his boss Dubya did an excellent job of “killing conservatism” all on their own.

Everyone on this thread should know that Rush has described Trump as a friend and golfing buddy. I think he has been doing a good job of keeping the friendship out of the commentary. He’s been eminently fair with all the candidates throughout the primaries, I think.

People, listen: I like Donald Trump a lot. But he does say some eminently screwy things at times. It’s part of who he is. Rush has made light of some of his more egregious statements, as he has praised or criticized ALL the candidates.

The problem for Rush, of course, is that he has a three-hour daily show. Those of us who listen to the whole thing know he has been very fair throughout this crazy process. People who tune in for a 10-minute segment where he’s praising or criticizing some candidate think that’s the whole of his thinking. The ever-shorter American attention span is not a fit for Rush’s thoughtful, hours-long, stream of consciousness.

All of that would get rid of deficits and pay down the debt.

I would love for that to happen.

You are judging when you should leave that to God.

I'm not damning anybody to hell, just pronouncing on their conservative bona fides. Whether you're a conservative has nothing to do with what you call yourself.

The Republicans were given a mandate in 2014 to stop Zero. They ignored us and continued to enable his treachery. The anger due to their arrogance is palpable. It’s not left or right, but a disgust with the District of Criminals. Hillary is simply the highest profile.

If the corruption is not taken care of very soon, there will be no alternative except for the people to take care of the situation, much like 1776. Just like King George, the DC politicos have no clue that their little nest of villainy is about to get a major application of Raid. The Tree of Liberty will be well-watered.

There are a lot of us oldsters that are no longer afraid of dying for a cause (or retribution if that is more accurate). They don’t want us in prison because we can be a royal PITA due to legally mandated health care. Start killing us in quantity (more obvious than Nev or Oregon) and it will be on.

“The Redcoats are coming” will turn into “The Feds are coming”. Once started, it will be impossible to stop.

JMHO.

Absolutely. After Newt, Mr. Balanced Budget Man,lost the primaary last time, I recently came up with a real screwy idea.

1) Make a list of all the Federal departments and agencies that existed December 31st, 1959.

2) Make another list of all departments and agencies that exist today.

3) Compare the two lists and work to eliminate the departments that exist today that did not exist prior to January 1960. EPA, Energy, Education, DHS, and dozens of others would be dissolved.

Simplistic? Yes. The purpose of the exercise is to rethink and justify the existence of these entities. Trivia: how many existed when the Constitution was created in 1789?

I welcome your comments. I haven’t seen a lot of favorable ones this campaign season. I understand where you are coming from, because I’ve seen him take a long time to explain something and folks didn’t get it.

I know what you mean.

“Limbaugh has excused Trump’s narcissism and bluster as an endearing “schtick.”

What if it is not schtick?

That wall will stop illegals, the cartels, the drugs, the gangs... and it stops the NAU in it’s tracks!

It’s not just the illegals. Can’t wait!

I think Rush was losing ratings when he promoted Rubio or even Cruz.

Rush must have pad attention to his eMail after last Friday's show.

I’ve seen so many instances on FR of “Rush endorsed Rubio!” “Rush endorsed Cruz!” “Rush endorsed Trump!” from people who listened to about 20 minutes and thought they heard exactly what they wanted to hear.

I’ve seen the same thing when I’ve listened in and then read folk’s take on his comments. Rush is a pretty clever guy, and sometimes he gets a bit too clever. Some folks don’t quite get it.

“Also keep in mind that Trump has not given Rush any interviews. Trump would be a huge boost for Limbaugh.”

Would you listen to the Cruz and Kasich interviews too? Do you think that they would also increase ratings?
