Rush Limbaugh’s blessing of Trump is killing conservatism
Washington Post ^ | 3/28/2016 | Michael Gerson

If Donald Trump becomes the Republican nominee, one of the main reasons will be that many in the conservative movement found him acceptable. And one of the main reasons that many conservatives are finding Trump acceptable is that the most influential political talk radio host in history, Rush Limbaugh, has provided his blessing.

Not his endorsement. Limbaugh takes pains to preserve neutrality between Trump and Ted Cruz, whom he describes as the obvious choice “if conservatism is the dominating factor in how you vote.”

But Limbaugh has also consistently defended Trump as a legitimate choice for those whose dominating factor is the humiliation of “the establishment.”

I have not commented on Rush due to the fact I have raised my Daughters and now Grandchildren with his program on in a lot of our Family Videos. My Wife and I have been avid followers of him back when He was in Sacramento and the mouse was in the garbage can and He used raid on him. Said that to make my point. I have turned him off this Election season I would never believed it if someone told me He would be so wrong on something so important. Still trying to figure out why , I hope it is not what I’m thinking.

Apparently this clown does not listen very carefully or he is awfully stupid. Rush has done everything he could, short of an announcement of support, to prop up Cruz. No mention of the sex scandal today. He figured no one would notice if he said nothing about either candidate and took calls from morons complaining about his imaginary support for Trump.

He said nothing about Cruz joining the enemy after Chicago.

I made some comments to others just above. I’ve got some mixed thoughts on this, and they aren’t all favorable to Rush.

I generally like Rush, so this isn’t a pent up animosity.

There were a few weeks recently when I listened to Rush where I did not recognize him form one day to the next. He swung like a pendulum hot and cold for Trump but always up on Cruz. It is like he had no idea who he was. I had never seen Rush like that.

when did this blessing occur?

I don’t listen to Rush, but I think I would have heard about it.

Rush is all in for Cruz and his audience knows it and I suspect he is losing ratings big time and now has to get realistic and rehabilitate his image.

Rush said recently that he did not care who the nominee was. He would vote for that person just to keep Hillary out. That I guess is interpreted as supportive of Trump.

I like Rush, and I think everyone gets it wrong sometimes.

This was a strange year. Trump was a tough pill to swallow. I can see why folks veered away. If they were honest, I have no problem with it.

I think Rush will fall in behind Trump soon, and we’ll be back to normal.

It is what it is.

Is this a divide-and-conquer strategy by the WP and the DC powers that be?

They tried belittlement of Trump for about a year. Perhaps the powers that be have now grown tired of that particular strategy?

The MSM has been giving hardcore support to liberals for decades. Now they are giving advice to Rush Limbaugh?

LOL

I don’t like to see that. That doesn’t sound good.

I think most of us wanted to give Ted some leeway on these charges. I had hoped they weren’t true, and I really don’t like him at all.

His family deserves better.

Rush was probably trying to hold off, since he can always address it in a day or so.

At any rate, thanks for the comments. I appreciate your perspective.

No conservative supports Trump. There are people who call themselves conservative because they identify with one or two conservative precepts, and they don’t seem to have any trouble with Trump, so long as he’s talking about their pet concerns.

Well, a lot of people really hoped Cruz could pull it off.

He hasn’t been able to.

They bought off on his Conservative credentials.

Rush can get it wrong too from time to time.

I still like the guy, and I think he’ll fall in behind Trump and we’ll be back to normal.

We’ll see.

Total BS. Regrettably, Rush is grasping for relevance. He lost faith in the U.S. a few years ago.

Turn social security, medicare, va, and anything else not authorized by the constitution over to the states and or privatize or just close down, repeal the 16th and 17th, abolish the IRS, EPA, etc, and you CAN cut government by 80% or more. Largest budget item would be the war dept.

Oh, yeah, and make China, Mexico, Japan, Europe and the oil producing states pay for it. Tariffs.

True. Trump may not be the quintessential "conservative," but because he's a realist, a pragmatist, he can save this country. Peel the onion beyond his bluster and examine his focus over the last 7 months.

None of the other candidates had put forth their priorities until Trump started his rants last June. They were your typical empty suit lawyer/politicians. With Europe being over run by millions of invading Muslims, many of whom are terrorists, Europe is finished. Trump has been hounding on this issue for-ever. Do we want to see more of this:

.

Do we want to see more of this?

Apparently the politicians in California don't have a problem. Over 400,000 illegal aliens received drivers licenses in California a few months ago. Trump would have prevented this cancer from spreading. The other candidates don't care; some like Kasich want more of this. That prick and the othe amnesty pukes should be arrested. Our sovereignty is being destroyed every day. I pray for America.

There is this idea out there, that Trump is antithetical to Conservatism. I do not believe that is the case.

He is an America firster, and shares a lot of platform planks with Reagan.

Folks are probably going to dislike some of the things he does, but I think he’s going to push through a lot of our agenda too.

I’m happy he’s doing well. I do not think he is the death of Conservatism.

Let’s recall that they considered the likes of McCain, Romney, McConnell, Boehner, Priebus, and Ryan to be Conservatives.

Excuse me, but that right there was the death of Conservatism.

Trump is standing up for us folks.

If anything, Trump is breathing new life into Conservatism, and it’s driving some folks absolutely crazy.

I have even a conservative since 1960. I have never voted for a dem. They are a group of people who hate this country. Everything they do seems to be “hate America first.” I did not like the last two candidates but I voted for them. Most of my friends/relatives are conservatives, too. They support Trump. There is even a FB group called, “Christians for Trump.” You are judging when you should leave that to God.
