Poll Donald Trump leads in California primary race but threatens a GOP fractur
LA LA Times ^ | March 27, 2016 | Cathleen Decker

Riding a rebellion fueled by opposition to illegal immigration and pessimism about the nation's future, Donald Trump leads a scrambling duo of competitors less than three months before California's Republican presidential primary, a new USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times statewide poll has found.

Yet the party whose nomination he is seeking has fractured because of his candidacy, with ominous prospects for Republicans if the New York businessman emerges victorious after the party's summer convention.

A quarter of California Republican voters polled said they would refuse to vote for Trump in November if he is the party's nominee. Almost one-third of those backing Trump's leading competitor, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, said they would not cast a ballot for Trump. Voters who back Trump, meanwhile, are critical of Cruz, with only half holding a favorable impression of him.

“but you guys have NO forward thinking in your head.

just kill ted and worry about the supporters later

good luck with that.”

Yup, I wouldn’t vote for that slime-ball POS now if he was running unopposed for POTUS!

The trumpsters did a good job of making all the other candidates supporters hate his filthy rotten guts.

“No Republican is gonna win California in November. Typical propaganda from the LA Democratic Times.

Correct, and quite probably, never. CA is fully engulfed.

Yes, because his own party wasn’t pouring $67M into attack ads against him, and he only had one opponent who ended up being his VP pick.

The bottom line is the party bosses are saying “it’s my party and i’ll cry if i want to”, they’re crying loudly like a bunch of spoiled brats, and they’re taking their ball and going home. Thereby handing the election to the Dems.

Sorry for mixing metaphors...

This is a statistical tie among likely primary voters.

Poll was conducted 3/16-3/23 among 1503 voters, INCLUDING 391 registered Republicans... pu-leeze.

Why so many voters are drawn to Donald Trump

The way the presidential campaign is shaping up, Ventura musician Jon Gindick may do something he's never done before. "I've never voted for a Republican," the registered Democrat told me. "I like Trump." A waiter told me he thought Trump's trade restrictions would create more jobs at higher wages. A couple wearing matching red, white and blue shirts told me their healthcare costs had tripled under Obamacare -- a program Trump says he'll shred. To Gindick, Trump's remarks about criminals coming across the border were refreshingly honest, and not at all a condemnation of all immigrants or Latinos in general. He thinks Trump's critics misrepresent him, that they're unfair in calling him a racist. "I saw it as a huge lie being repeated by the GOP establishment and Democrats," he said. Cruz is so naive he has no idea the GOP is using him to split votes from trump. He actually thinks the GOP who despises cruz will make him the nominee. I was at Cpac and the establishment loathes cruz... They dont want trump but there is active hate for cruz. He should wake up and realize that the fix is in.

Eh, he also had a clear philosophy, a coterie of conservative intellectuals backing him and two decades of working in favor of freedom. As an aside, I think Reagan made a mistake with his VP pick; he should have listened to his wife and selected Paul Laxalt.
