Whiplash: Romney Warns Against Kasich One Week After Campaigning With Him
NBC ^ | 3/21/16 | Mark Murray

Talk about political whiplash.

Exactly one week ago, 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney -- in his effort to defeat Donald Trump -- campaigned in Ohio with John Kasich, telling the state's voters to cast ballots for their governor.

"Unlike the other people running, he has a real track record," Romney said of Kasich. "He has the kind of record that you want in Washington, and that's why I'm convinced that you're going to do the right thing tomorrow."

Today, however, Romney's voice appears on robocalls in Arizona and Utah, telling these voters to side with Ted Cruz -- and not to vote for Kasich.

In the robocall, Romney calls Cruz "the only Republican candidate who can defeat Donald Trump," and says "at this point a vote for John Kasich is a vote for Donald Trump."

Now neither call is contradictory -- Kasich can be the last Republican candidate left with "a real track record," and Cruz can be the only candidate remaining "who can defeat" Trump. And this all plays into Romney's call for Republicans to vote for the candidate to deny Trump the delegates he needs to get the nomination.

"Given the current delegate selection process, that means that I'd vote for Marco Rubio in Florida and for John Kasich in Ohio and for Ted Cruz or whichever one of the other two contenders has the best chance of beating Mr. Trump in a given state," Romney said earlier this month.

I noticed MA is no longer his home state.

Big mystery why he didn’t run in a safe Red state to serve two terms as Governor.

Never could figure it out.

“Romney wants to be parachuted in a brokered convention as the unity candidate.”

That’s exactly it. Hugh Hewitt has been telegraphing the GOPe plan for months, back to January when it became obvious that Jeb! couldn’t deliver for them.

The party insiders have absolutely no intention of letting primary voters decide who the candidate will be. The only chance is for Trump or Cruz to have 1237 delegates on the first ballot.

Failing this the GOPe will choose the candidate. They have the convention rules on their side, and they will enforce them. Anyone who doubts this has no idea what sort of people are in control of the GOP.

The GOP would probably rally around him. With Kasich on the ticket to secure OH.

It’s not imagination. Barring Trump or Cruz amassing 1237 delegates on the first ballot it is what will happen.

I would have supported Trump running as a third party candidate if the GOPee stole this from Trump, but Trump’s threat of running as an independent will no longer work as it’s clear the GOPee does not care about winning. The GOPee’s survival depends on stopping Trump. If Trump runs as an independent, Hillary wins, and the GOPee wins, and they will celebrate together on election night. That’s what this has come down to.

A vote for Cruz or a vote for Kasich is a vote for Romney.

Here’s my answer. I’ve been posting this comment on every site I go to that uses Disqus. I mean it and I don’t care who doesn’t like it.

“GOP hear me on this! I’m voting for Donald Trump for President this November, as the R nominee or as a write in if I have to. If I have to do a write in vote because of dirty tricks at the convention, I’ll do so, but then I’m going to vote a straight Dem ticket on the rest of my ballot.

You might think Hillary will be easier for you to deal with than Donald Trump, but you’ll be singing a different tune when waves of Republicans are swept from office and the Democrats have super majorities in both houses of the next congress. Many Donald Trump supporters will not stay home on election day, we’ll vote for him as a write in candidate and then vote FOR your Democrat opponents.

Millions of Americans who have been reliable Republican voters have concluded that the leadership of both parties has been operating in the interests of Big Money and Big Business to the detriment of the middle class and we’ve had enough. If you insist on ruining what we consider our last chance to save this country to keep your place at the trough, then let’s get this party started.”

“Romney is a cheap whore...”

He is a whore, but certainly not cheap. Also fully owned by the good ole boy GOPe. Pay to play, and go along to get along...and keep all of your lobby and bribe money coming in.

” If Trump runs as an independent, Hillary wins, and the GOPee wins”

I don’t know if that will be true or not. Trump is very popular with many blue collar Democrat males who can’t stand Hillary. A three way race could be very close with someone winning the White House with 40% of the total vote. This is the best election year ever and I wouldn’t eliminate any possibility.

That’s the God’s honest truth. I used to think Romney was a gentleman..Feckless but at least a gentleman. He’s lower than a sewer rat.
