In 2005, Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) spoke on the Senate floor and insisted he and his colleagues had no constitutional duty to approve President George W. Bushs Supreme Court nominee. Fast forward to 2016, hes changing his tune. In a Washington Post article, Reid writes, The Senates constitutional duty to give a fair and timely hearing and a floor vote to the presidents Supreme Court nominees has remained inviolable.
Meet the Press host Chuck Todd felt compelled to point out the senator's hypocrisy on Sunday:
Meet The Press confronts Harry Reid with past hypocritical postures on Supreme Court nominations
I guess Im confused. Which is it? What has changed from 2005, when you said there was nothing in the Constitution that said a vote, to 2016?
p>Reid mumbled something about his career-long goal of ridding Congress of obstructionism.
Then Todd asked an even more direct and obvious question: But I guess Im going back to, what has changed other than the political party affiliation of the White House?
Its also worth noting that in this interview Reid insists there is no Biden Rule.
Leigh was on Capitol Hill this week and asked Reid about the Biden Rule, which refers to comments Vice President Joe Biden made during his time as a senator, claiming that no Supreme Court nominee should be approved in the final year of a presidential term. Here was their exchange, in which Reid clearly says he wishes the Republicans would follow it.

What’s said is that entertainment TV, otherwise know as the media will defend Dingy.
said should be SAD.
The Truth is what Harry Reid says it is. No arguments allowed.
Rats don’t care cuz they know their base has the attention span of a squirrel on crack.
Whatever is said today, means nothing tomorrow for if they change their mind then that is what is right.
I thought this guy was gone already....geeez
Fie then Harry. What about the Obama rule or the Schumer rule? Which is basically the same thing as the Biden rule.

Wow, that’s a shocker
Which is the same philosophy possessed by the now totally discredited Republican party. Go Donald!!!
I am surprised that a TV “self-called” journalist even knew about the Biden Rule, much less even called Reid up on it.
THEN, he had the nerve to followup on Reid’s hypocritical lies about it!

Orwell's "1984" ping.
In 2005, Reid led an ultimately unsuccessful filibuster of Bush's Supreme Court nomination of Alito. Then, in 2013, Reid unilaterally abolished the filibuster for all Presidential nominations EXCEPT for nominations to the Supreme Court, which he expressly retained. Clearly, Reid believes that filibustering Supreme Court nominations is a legitimate and important right for the Senate that needed to be retained.
So at least 34 Republican Senators need to announce that they are going to follow Reid's example and filibuster Obama's Supreme Court nomination.
Fine. Let’s follow the Harry Reid Rule.
Is that the one known as — “I enrich all my boys as often as my vote will do so? “
What’s odd here is that Chuck Todd is holding a democrat responsible for earlier comments and being a hypocrite.
Is Chuck Todd ‘growing’ into being a real journalist and NOT just a paid democrat hack?
He could be the first.
Now they are approving of Strom Thurmond.
