Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz Split Anti-Donald Trump Vote In Florida

A Florida Atlantic University public opinion poll released Saturday showed Donald Trump with 44 percent of the vote and Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz with 21 percent each. With the primary just days away, 5 percent of Florida Republicans still hadn't made up their minds.

If the numbers hold through Tuesday's primary, the billionaire businessman and part-time Palm Beach resident would win all of Florida's 99 nominating delegates in the winner-take-all primary.

If Rubio, Florida's junior U.S. senator, fares as poorly in actual votes in his home state as the poll indicates, it would be a devastating blow to his presidential hopes. If Cruz, a senator from Texas, finishes even with Rubio, that could boost his argument that he's the best alternative to Trump.

Hillary is not engendering passion (as shown by turnout), and is being dogged by a 74 year old avowed socialist. Way to beat the Republicans!!

Why do you say that 65% of the electorate will not vote for Trump? How do you know its not 65% of the electorate does not voting for Cruz?

It will be interesting to see how many side with the politicians after they blamed Trump for the violent Chicago attacks, all organized by anti-American violent hate groups.

Well said. Anyone who adds Neil Bush to their campaign is giving an “all aboard” signal to the rest of the GOPe to join and bring their wallets too. Ted Cruz is bought and paid for by the establishment. What else can you say?

If polls are good enough to conclude what you conclude, why have elections?

Of course you are free to draw what ever conclusion you want but beware that the polls are manipulated. After they get the data they extrapolate from a small sample to a larger population. How well this is done is what makes the polls inaccurate.

At issue with the concept you propose is that in actuality, the general election will be decided by whoever opposes Hillary and the hypothetical match up between Trump and Cruz will not play the slightest role.

When has Cruz been above 50%?

Both men, Trump and Cruz have had significatn wins, by large margins and where they either beat 50% or got very close.

The four highest Trump wins are:

MA - 50.5%
NV - 46%
AL - 44%
HI - 44%

The four highest for Crus are:

WY - 71%
KS - 48%
ID - 47%
TX - 45%

I believe both men are going to be more than capable of getting over 50% of the vote if it comes down to them facing off one on one. Trump in some, Cruz in others.

A majority of Cruz supporters, a quarter of Rubio supporters and around twenty percent of Lasich supporters would back Trump if any of them dropped out. Trump would have a majority in any scenario. It is absolutely wrong to believe that all voters of Kasich, Rubio or Cruz would migrate to any one of the others en masse. Many of Kasich and Rubio supporters would never support Cruz social positions. Each have a constituency that find the others unacceptable. Some would just not vote. That just increases the odds of the person in the lead to win.

I have family members in TX who are very adamant Cruz supporters now, but if Trump wins the nomination, they will be fierce Trump supporters. I don’t see your point.

If Cruz had that populism that surrounds Trump and that “ring” of truth attraction (which Cruz comes off as a snake salesman—and I HATE the connections to the Cheney bunch (Rice and Iraq war) that his wife has always had for decades which is extremely suspicious. Cruz “controlled”-—hmmmmmmm....maybe. He does not have millions/billions to control anything for himself-—he is bought by someone/controlled by someone else and I don’t like his connections with Bushies now-—very evil nazi-satanic “family”—no different than the Clintons.

The “outside the box” personality of Trump is REFRESHING-—and it is ATTRACTIVE to the masses-—Trump is not remotely controlled by anyone else (no NWO-—and he understands the destruction that this bush-Clinton cabal has done). The destruction of Western Civilization has to be turned around-—that Christian White male is being eliminated off the face of the earth-—and this “Christian God” on the sleeve of Cruz is VERY suspicious.

Cruz will become the front runner for the door. Trying to get out of the house as soon as possible after the beating he will take. Trump will win Florida, NC, Illinois and will be first or second in Ohio. Kasich could win his home state. Missouri is also going to be close between Trump and Cruz. If Cruz wins Missouri and a close second in NC he can stay in the race but it is over for him winning the nomination outright and there are almost no non-caucus states he can win. if Kasich wins Ohio and all 66 votes he could stay in the race but there are not many places where he can still win.

It appears unlikely Rubio will win Florida. At that point it is just him running out the clock.

The only scenario to stop Trump, even though none of the rest can win, is for Rubio to beat Trump in Florida, Kasich to beat Trump in Ohio, Cruz to upset Trump in NC and Missouri, and with Kasich or Cruz to win Illinois. Trump could take Florida and any one of the other states and still be on track to the nomination.

If Cruz wins none of the five he can go home to Texas and start preparing for his Senate defense.

That's ridiculous. Using that logic Trump supports Islamic jihadis because he said Americans should not draw Mohammed right after a mass murder attempt in Texas last year.
